The ego does not exist. There is only you. There is no enemy to defeat inside your head, you don't need to escape yourself. You just need to act with conscience. You need to learn what to allow of yourself and what to restrain. You need to be reasonable, concern yourself with your actual lived experience, protect your sense of self, communicate effectively and know when to yield, when to resist, and when to compromise. Know the difference between good and evil. Know what you are and what you believe. Seek what is real. And y'know what? You actually don't need to do any of those things. I'm just some guy on the Internet. Why would you start living and thinking the way I do? Sit down, write out on paper what would make you have integrity, and what kind of person you want to be proud of. Then uphold the oath you took to yourself.

I HATE that phrase "must thrive in a fast-paced environment." It's a code word for "this restaurant or other business has chronically high volume; you will be expected to work at a high output and handle the stress without complaining." Like just tell me it's a shit job, don't make it a riddle.

I want AI to make life better, and that includes the people currently working their asses off for barely enough money to live. A lot of low-income workers work harder than the privileged people speculating about how unnecessary they're about to become. They deserve to be paid very well for the work they do. Having less formal education doesn't make someone's labor, time, or body cheap. There's something horrible about a vision of the future where AI replaces people's jobs, they lose their income, and the people who own everything congratulate themselves on the efficiency. What happens to those workers? Do they get to enjoy this abundance we're always hearing about, or are they just expected to quietly disappear? Any technological utopia worth wanting has to improve life at every income level, allow people to move upward, and compensate the people still doing necessary work generously. The benefits have to reach people who can't afford the technology themselves. I'm a bartender who builds software with AI. I can be excited about what we're building and still insist that the people serving your dinner deserve a comfortable life in that future.

I'm tired. I'm lost. I'm forlorn. And I have no choice but to walk on, still haunted, still striving for a good life that already died at the hands of time.
