Just another gimmick from a party that has lost all credibility on defence. £10bn wouldn't even touch the sides for a complete UK-wide 'Iron Dome'. The Tories need to review their dodgy sums or be honest about which parts of the country their Patchwork Dome wouldn’t cover.
🚨 NEW: The Tories have promised to build a £10bn Israeli-style Iron Dome called the “Britannia Shield”

I'm so sad for @andree_frieze that she's left @TheGreenParty - it was her home, her family. She's been a committed campaigner for years and a very well-respected councillor in Ham and Petersham for 8 years. Despite our party differences, we were friends.

I want to echo this message. To anyone who joined the Green Party thinking they were supporting an environmentalist cause and are now questioning that choice. To those whose political foundation is rooted in equality for all, as well as being a proud custodian of our natural world. To those tired of antisemitism and islamophobia in their party. You can find your political home in the @LibDems Come and join the real green party in Britain.
I feel profoundly sad for the Greens that joined a party thinking they were going to be environmentalists and have found themselves surrounded by antisemitism. I am also appalled at the cowardice displayed by their leader, who chose not to lead, but to hide. If you’re a Green Party member and your political foundation is rooted in equality for all, as well as being a proud custodian of our natural world, you can find your political home in the Liberal Democrats.

Zack Polanski’s absence from the ‘Zionism is Racism’ vote “doesn’t look like leadership, it looks like cowardice”, says @jonsopel . "If Polanski wants to lead the party, he should lead in support of the motion. If he opposes the motion, why isn't he leading in opposition to it?"

The Green Party motion stokes anti-Jewish hatred and does nothing to combat antisemitism or islamaphobia. Turning to the extremes is no way to bring people together or help people feel safer. We stand with our British Jewish friends and neighbours.

British Jews are rightly horrified by events at the Green Party conference - I am too. I’ve written to the EHRC alongside @LibDems colleagues @mariecgoldman and @ZoeFranklinLD to ask whether the Green Party’s new policy is a breach of the Equality Act.

Zionism is both historic and spiritual; the ancient connection of the Jewish people to the land of Israel and their right to self-determination in their historic homeland. I am British by birth, belonging and love; Jewish by inheritance, memory and faith. Britain is my country. Israel is not a competing loyalty, it is the homeland of the Jewish people to which I am bound by ancestry, memory and identity. For millions of Jews, that is the heart of Zionism. Not supremacy, dispossession or the killing of Palestinians and not a colonial claim to a foreign land but the self-determination of a people with an ancient and continuous connection to it. In practice, it must mean two peoples entitled to self-determination both living in security and freedom with neither people’s future purchased with the lives, rights or humanity of the other. That is why declaring “Zionism is racism” is not merely wrong, it tells most Jews that their understanding of their own history, identity and collective freedom is itself morally suspect. The Greens should ask themselves whom they are trying to please by adopting a slogan that turns Jewish self-determination into a moral stain. If your politics of inclusion requires millions of Jews to renounce a central part of their history and identity before they qualify for your solidarity, it isn’t inclusion. You are telling Jews: you may belong here but only if you disown Israel as the homeland of the Jewish people. That is not anti-racism. It is imposing a political test on Jews that no genuinely progressive movement would dream of imposing on any other minority.

Our statement on the motion recently passed at Green Party conference: We are deeply concerned by the motion passed by the Green Party at their conference, and know that many Jews in Bristol will be left feeling less safe this week than they did last as a result.

I have officially resigned from the Green Party and will currently sit as an independent Cllr A statement to the people of Waterloo Today I have made the incredibly difficult decision to resign from the Green Party. As things stand, I will now sit as an Independent councillor for Waterloo. I'm 23. I grew up here, walked these streets as a little boy and couldn't be prouder to now represent the community I call home. I didn't get into politics for a career or a party badge. I got into it to help people and make my community better. At Green Party Conference, a motion was passed declaring Zionism a form of racism and committing the party to oppose it. I had serious concerns about what this could mean for Jewish members. Being Jewish does not make someone a Zionist. Jewish people hold many different views on Israel and Zionism. An amendment was put forward saying members should not be pressured or disciplined simply because they attend or are connected to Jewish institutions such as synagogues or community centres. It also sought to ensure Jewish members weren't punished for views that wouldn't see non-Jewish members punished. I voted for it. It was rejected. I then voted against the final motion. I saw Jewish members in tears afterwards. I won't forget that. I came back to Waterloo knowing I couldn't look residents in the face and defend something I believe is wrong. I will always stand up for Palestinian freedom and speak out against the actions of the Israeli Government. But I can do that while standing with our Jewish community against antisemitism. We must be able to do both. I fear the Green Party is heading to a very dark place. I cannot follow it there. If that means my political career ends at 23, so be it. I'm not leaving Waterloo. I'll still be here, taking up your casework, fighting your corner and doing everything I can for the community I love.

It’s brilliant the PM has recognised the issues Lib Dems have campaigned on for so long are central to fixing our country & growing our economy. As a result of his speech, social care, EU & PR are now firmly in the political mainstream, which is exactly where we want them to be.
