This day is profoundly painful for so many New Yorkers. It marks three years since the horrific war crimes of October 7. On that day, Hamas killed more than 1,100 Israelis and abducted 251 others. We grieve alongside our many friends and neighbors who still carry that unthinkable loss. The suffering did not begin nor end that day. It instead continued through the Israeli government’s devastating, ongoing genocide in Gaza, in which it has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians—including more than 21,000 children. Even since the so-called ceasefire, more than 1,400 Palestinians have been killed. That suffering has intensified with every Israeli bomb dropped on ambulances waiting outside hospitals, every drone strike targeting a residential building or journalist, and every shipment of food aid turned away at a border crossing. Many New Yorkers are reckoning with this unbearable grief, and we mourn alongside them – all while knowing that our tax dollars fund these war crimes. Three years later, we must refuse to accept a world in which occupation and apartheid continue, where war crimes are met with impunity, and our federal government continues its complicity with every arms shipment. To honor the dead, we must fight for a world in which every person can live with freedom, safety, and dignity.

🚨TRAINWRECK: Susan Collins is DESPERATELY trying to distance herself from Trump during the Maine Senate debate. “He has said that I vote with President Trump 95% of the time. When President Biden was in office, I voted with him 92% of the time.” This is humiliating.

After Minnie Cox, the first black female postmaster, was forced out of her post in Mississippi, President Theodore Roosevelt paid her salary and rerouted the town's mail 30 miles away until her position was restored. In 1902, Minnie M. Cox was serving as postmaster of Indianola, Mississippi, one of the few Black women in the South holding a federal position during the Jim Crow era. White residents in the town began organizing to have her removed. Petitions were circulated, threats were made, and pressure mounted against her solely because of her race. As the hostility grew, Cox submitted her resignation. President Theodore Roosevelt refused to accept it. Instead of replacing her, Roosevelt ordered the Indianola post office closed. He continued paying Cox her federal salary, and mail for the town was redirected to Greenville, roughly 30 miles away. For months, Indianola residents had to travel out of town to receive their mail. The closure became a national political issue, with Southern officials condemning Roosevelt’s decision while many Black Americans saw it as a rare instance of the federal government refusing to bow to racial pressure. Eventually, the post office reopened under new arrangements, but the episode remained one of the most direct federal responses to racial intimidation in the early 20th century. Minnie Cox later left Mississippi and went on to have a successful career in business and education. Her case is still studied today as an example of how federal authority was sometimes used to confront local segregation during the Jim Crow era.

Hey, Stephen A. Smith: Lane Johnson's mom has cancer. His dad is also sick. I read your book and you talked about how difficult your life got when your mom got sick and after she passed, you had to go to therapy because you were depressed and you took time off of work. Your mocking Lane Johnson's mental health struggles when you've been open about your own mental health struggles? Come on, man. I know you're busy, but do some research before going on TV @stephenasmith #Eagles

Three close friends of Nolan Wells have filed a defamation lawsuit against a TikTok creator they say repeatedly accused them of killing him. Warren Hudson, Jax Pitalo and Morgan Seymour claim Sandra L. Butler, who runs “gods_bestgirl,” accused them of m-rdering Wells on a boat and covering it up. Wells disappeared during a July 4, 2026 boating trip to Mississippi’s Horn Island, and his body was found two days later. A grand jury returned a “no true bill,” meaning no criminal charges were filed. The three men deny any involvement and are seeking damages and an injunction.
