Today is World Pharmacists Day. Every day, Anera’s pharmacists work under immense challenges. From building healthcare clinics in Gaza to providing lifesaving medicine to those in Lebanon, our team ensures scarce supplies reaches those who face displacement and trauma. Today, and every day, we recognize their courage, skill and the vital role they play in keeping communities healthy.

We want to say thank you. Whether you’ve been an Anera supporter since last week or have been with us for decades, you are part of our community and we could not do this work without you. Here are some of our recent accomplishments from Gaza that you made possible: 1) Two reverse osmosis units were installed in Gaza and Khan Younis that will deliver safe drinking water to thousands of people 2) We’ll be renovating two kindergartens in addition to continuing our work in temporary learning centers 3) We’re able to support 57 micro-businesses in Gaza through our WeCan project to help families generate income 4) We continue to serve thousands of food parcels and fresh vegetables, including more than 8,000 food parcels distributed from August 19- September 10 5) Within that same time frame, our healthcare team provided 5,298 consultations, including primary healthcare, maternal and child health, nutrition, MHPSS, reproductive health, and chronic disease management We hope for a day when such work is not necessary and that Palestinians can live a life with dignity and prosperity. Until then, we will continue to do what we know how to do best: serve those in need. The past four years have been challenging, an understatement, but hope is what gets us through. Jordan serves as a critical humanitarian corridor for medical evacuations from Gaza, most of them children. Through our Gaza Support Program in Jordan, Anera is there to help families during the transition. Our care spans from arrival and medical treatment to recovery and ongoing support. Additionally, we ensure to create spaces where children can grow and play. In partnership with the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation in Jordan, Anera hosted a reading session for children from Gaza who were evacuated to Jordan for medical treatment.  Sessions like this provide moments of joy, connection, and spark imagination. 💫

Part of our work here at Anera is to build spaces of joy and learning for children, whether it be schools in the West Bank, temporary learning spaces in Gaza or summer camps. This year, with support from MECI, Anera’s summer camps reached 1,200 children ages 6–15 across 12 locations in the West Bank. Children took part in activities that encouraged creativity, built life skills and strengthened their connections with their communities, all while having access to psychosocial support. Today, we celebrate Sean Carroll’s nine remarkable years of service as Anera’s president and CEO, as he transitions from that role. Sean has guided Anera through extraordinary challenges and significant growth, from the COVID-19 pandemic and the Beirut port explosion to devastating war and humanitarian crises in Gaza and Lebanon. Under his leadership, Anera grew from $65 million in annual programming to more than $170 million in assistance in 2025. We are deeply grateful for Sean’s leadership, judgment and commitment to Anera’s mission, and for all he has helped make possible. Anera's mission continues apace. The Anera Board has begun the search for Anera’s next president and CEO. Chief Operating Officer Alicia Phillips Mandaville will serve as interim CEO, working closely with acting president Joe Saba, chair of the board. During this transition, Anera’s work continues without interruption. Rawan Al-Salkhi is a participant in WeCan project, from Al-Eizariya. She launched her ice cream business eight months ago with support from Anera’s community. As part of the project, she received training in business management, financial management, and marketing, as well as a grant that enabled her to purchase an ice cream display freezer and a slush machine. The support has helped Rawan strengthen her business, improve her financial stability, and build a sustainable source of income for herself and her family. 🍦

Like many, Najwa had experienced severe menstrual pain. So often, women are told that severe pain is normal. However, Najwa listened to her body and knew something was seriously wrong when her menstrual cycle turned into nearly a month of continuous hemorrhaging, leaving her weak, dizzy and barely able to walk. “I could hardly make it to the bathroom and back,” Najwa recalls. “The pain and dizziness were unbearable.” After seeking help, Najwa underwent a series of examinations, including blood tests and ultrasound scans. Doctors diagnosed her with large uterine fibroids that were causing severe, continuous bleeding. They recommended surgery, a procedure secured through Anera. This week marks International Literacy Day. Every day at Anera, we are committed to advancing literacy. 📖 As children around the world prepare for the first day of school, the reality in Gaza looks very different. For hundreds of thousands of children, there are no school buildings to return to. There are 392 temporary classrooms running across Gaza, reaching roughly 221,000 children, about a third of the need, taught by nearly 5,200 teachers. As part of that response, since October 2023, Anera and its partners, have reached more than 77,000 children from kindergarten through school age across Gaza, with emotional support and safe places to learn, ensuring that even amid destruction and displacement, learning does not stop. The Brooklyn Nomads are an Arab-led music collective founded in Brooklyn in 2014 by brothers Hadi and Mohamad Eldebek. Through concerts, theatrical productions, workshops, and recordings, they build gatherings rooted in Arab musical tradition — spanning centuries-old poetry, folk repertoire, and original work. All proceeds support programs that provide services to displaced families and communities in need throughout Palestine, Lebanon and Jordan. As part of our effort to support Gaza evacuees, we installed 10 smart washing machines across three accommodation sites in Jordan housibng host families of patients from Gaza who require urgent medical attention. This initiative eases the daily burden of displaced families, improves hygiene and helps maintain families' dignity.
