In our 2025 benchmarks report, we raised the possibility that 2021 could become the first vintage since 2000 in which the typical venture fund actually lost money.
As of July 1, 2026, 2021 median TVPI sits at 1.12x. Still thin five years in, but moving in the right direction. The broader recovery is holding, though distributions to LPs remain the constraint.
