Lower taxes. Cheaper power. Less migration and more homes. Putting Australians first. These are our priorities to restore Australians’ standard of living and to protect our way of life.

Australians are suffering the biggest fall in living standards in the developed world. Power bills are up. Fuel is up. Unemployment is rising. Families are paying more than $30,000 extra a year on their mortgage. And where is the Prime Minister? In New York collecting an award for himself. Only the Coalition has a plan to fix the economy and protect our way of life.

Vale Gary Angry Anderson. He looked tough, sounded tough and built a career as one of Australia’s great rockers. But behind it was a good bloke with a kind soul. A man who cared deeply about people, particularly young Australians doing it tough as he did. Angry was an Australian icon. His voice fronted Rose Tattoo and helped define the raw, unapologetic sound of Australian rock that I loved rocking out to. He loved Australia, he lived a big life, survived enormous challenges and kept playing right to the end. Tough as they come. Vale, Angry. Rock on.

Fuel isn’t optional. Families need it to get to work and school. Truckies need it to move our goods. Businesses need it to keep their doors open. And when fuel goes up, the price of almost everything goes up. Right now Australians are being smashed at the bowser. Unleaded is averaging around $2.38 a litre and diesel is pushing towards $3. The Government can provide relief now. Our Fuel Price Shield would halve the fuel excise and save motorists 27 cents a litre. Prime Minister, put Australians first. Adopt our Fuel Price Shield and cut the tax on fuel.

Fuel prices are hurting motorists right now. The Government has the option to provide immediate relief at the bowser. Under the Coalition’s Fuel Price Shield, fuel excise would be halved when the two-week average Brent oil price rises above US$100 a barrel, cutting around 27 cents a litre, or about $15 on a typical tank. When oil prices surge, the tax comes down. When they normalise, the ordinary rate returns. That is a practical way to give motorists relief during a serious global oil shock.

Communities are reeling this weekend after the deaths of three women. It’s a confronting reminder that innocent women and children are murdered. Needlessly. Australian women die too often at the hands of men they know. It’s important to be clear about this because women should feel safest in their homes and with their partners and families. One woman is killed by her current or former partner every 11 days. In around one in five of these deaths, a current Domestic Violence Order was in place. The Coalition continues to support primary prevention efforts, which have been led by national, bipartisan, long-term campaigns. But we must also confront the risk factors and ensure the justice system operates to keep women safe.

When global oil prices spike, Australians shouldn’t be left to wear the pain. We have a plan to protect drivers from fuel price shocks. When fuel prices average US$100 a barrel for two weeks, we’ll halve the fuel excise—saving motorists up to 27 cents a litre, or around $15 a tank. The Coalition’s Fuel Price Shield will protect Australians and help to keep costs down.

Labor’s budget keeps falling apart by the day. This week the Government finally back flipped on the cruel allied health cap they put on our veterans. It was also revealed the Prime Minister spent $7 billion in a text message to an ABC journalist increasing the refugee intake. And despite much fan fare the government isn’t cutting migration. It has only committed to reach its targets which it has never met and are still way too high.

1,100 people a day. That’s one new arrival in Australia every 78 seconds. That’s the scale of mass migration Australians are dealing with under Labor. And today, instead of cutting immigration, Labor announced more tinkering around the edges. Australians are struggling to find a home, pay the rent and keep up with the cost of living. Labor’s answer is to keep the numbers high and hope no one notices. Australians deserve lower numbers and higher standards. So why didn’t Labor cut immigration today?

Pressure from the Coalition has forced Labor to scrap its arbitrary cap on allied health services for veterans and their families. I want to thank the veterans, their families and the veterans’ organisations who stood strong, gave voice to their concerns and stared this government down. There are more than half-a-million veterans in this country. Australians who have served in conflicts from the Second World War through to Afghanistan. They’ve served, suffered and sacrificed for their fellow Australians. We owe them a debt that can never be repaid. The last thing any government should do is force our veterans to pay-up for the treatment they need because of their service. Labor’s cruel cap says everything about this government’s warped priorities. Labor puts Australians second. We will always put Australians first.

Great news for our veterans. We’ve scrapped Labor’s appalling cap on their allied healthcare. Veterans shouldn’t have to fight for their healthcare. Nothing signals warped priorities more than a government that’s so desperate to find savings it goes after our veterans.

Under Labor migration numbers have been too high and the standards have been too low. They have lost control of migration and they have lost control of housing. They have failed to protect our way of life and Australians are paying the price. The Coalition will cut the numbers and raise the standards. We will cap migration to the number of homes we can build. Labor can’t be trusted to get migration down having missed their target every year they have been in office by hundreds of thousands.

The Prime Minister has blown a $7 billion hole in the budget after sending an off handed text message to an ABC journalist committing to increase the refugee intake. Labor’s Budget was built on the humanitarian intake falling to 13,750. The PM has changed it back to 20,000 and still won’t say who approved it or where the money will come from. Australians deserve better than a government that makes multibillion-dollar spending decisions by text message. We will restore responsible spending and put Australians first.

The PM has delivered a trifecta of failure on housing: fewer homes, higher rents and confidence smashed. Today we learned new-home sales have crashed 20 per cent in just three months, while there are 15 per cent fewer construction apprentices and trainees than when Labor came to office. Australia can’t build the homes we need if Labor keeps making it harder to build them. We have a plan to fix the economy and protect our way of life.

Including over 51,000 non-citizens. We will reserve the First Home Buyers 5% Deposit Scheme for Australian citizens only. We will put Australians first.

Chris Bowen told ABC 7.30 he “never quite bought all the hype on green hydrogen.” Yet his Government has put more than $9 billion of taxpayer support behind it. That deserves a pretty simple explanation: what changed?

Labor is addicted to mass migration. The numbers have been too high and the standards have been too low. There aren’t enough homes for Australians and our roads, schools, and hospitals are under strain. A Coalition Government will protect our way of life. We will cut the numbers and we will raise the standards. We will put Australians first.

Australia is on track for its worst decade of productivity growth on record. Under Labor, productivity has fallen nearly 5%, GDP per person has declined in 10 of the last 15 quarters, and Australians have suffered the largest fall in living standards in the developed world. Employers are telling Anthony Albanese: you can’t tax, regulate and spend out of this hole. But Jim Chalmers refuses to listen and just keeps digging. Our plan: lower taxes, cheaper power, less red tape, more investment and more homes. We will fix the economy and protect our way of life.

Labor has now conceded its toxic taxes are hurting start-ups, after already hitting widows, babies, small and family businesses and young Australians trying to get ahead. But Jim Chalmers still won’t scrap them. Instead, Labor keeps reaching for carve-outs, exemptions and patches. These toxic taxes don’t need another fix. They need to go.

As we mark the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, we remember the almost 3,000 people killed including the 10 Australians, we think of their families, and we face the fact that Islamist extremism remains a significant threat. My commitment to Australians is to keep out, and root out Islamist extremism. We will protect our way of life.
