The EU has to steer Member States to sustainable food production and consumption.
At the same time, there is also a moral obligation towards animals, as their sentience is also backed by science.
Citizens expect their countries will respond to their calls for higher ambition.
Last December’s high-level Conference on animal welfare showed it is not just a moral issue ➡️ it is key to a more sustainable food production 🇪🇺.
I look forward to working w/Member States to build more ambitious animal welfare rules that deliver on our citizens’ expectations.
