'Tis the voice of the Alto: I heard her declare That note is too high, I'm not going up there!

It's that time of year when many people on twitter announce their Messiahs and I get to enjoy trying to match up how many of them could be in the same performance

If you tell me to dance along pretending I'm a child again, you're not getting uninhibited boogie, you're getting someone hiding behind a curtain. Who else couldn't freestyle as a child?

Is it some Conductor training to talk about voiced consonants... such as f and k?? This has happened with multiple conductors now 🤔

First rehearsal of the year is off to a good start as I realise the packed dinner I have to eat on the train... is cold lentil curry... rather than the sandwiches I normally make

Congregational singing: if I can sing the whole hymn/carol an octave down, then you're playing it too high!
Please, organists . . . may we have Hark the Herald in F or even lower! Otherwise the congregation has 18 top Es. 18! Ghastly! @ChoirOfKingsCam @SJCChoir @annalapwood @RCO_Updates @WAbbeyChoir @jonathanpeyre

Imagine... a carol concert *without*... a soprano solo... Has anyone ever done one? Been to one?

But like seriously, of the pieces that I have the music for this year, 4 have sop solos (sometimes multiple ones), 5 have no solos, and 1 has no solos but lengthy bits where it's just sop tune and nothing else #CarolsForAltos #WeSingToo #NotJustSops

I love my soprano friends dearly but it's just so frustrating! One piece we did put the basses on a continued same note *the whole time* like, pages of it, which just feels like lazy writing tbh

I fear sometimes we may be referred to as a 'drone'...
🎶🎶 Hard at work for our concert on November 19th! Question of the day: what is the collective noun for altos? A flock? A gaggle? Then again, both of these suggestions came from the sopranos... 🎟️🎟️ Tickets here, don't miss out: rwcmd.ac.uk/events/2022-11/c…

I feel that with current news combined with Christmas, it is worth a reminder that *David Willcocks* is the music one, and not to be confused with the *other* David W. Not that I've ever made this mistake, of course...
Seeing so many people tweeting lovely things about amateur music making - adding to that, it means pieces can get performed/recorded much more easily - my choirs record a lot of less popular music, and so many of the performances I love listening to are amateur too!

Never more intimidated than when someone emails their 'singing cv' while enquiring about joining my choir...
We heard @PetrocTrelawny announce that the @BBCRadio3 Breakfast Carol Competition with @GarethMalone has opened. We offer this very singable rendition of @NiallCPoetry's words, which can be sung by anyone, but is particularly suited for altos. bbc.com/mediacentre/2022/bbc…

Having already discussed money, religion and politics at work, this week we went for the big one: women and girls in cathedral choirs. (yes, we are still speaking to each other)

Alto plea to stop singing God save the Queen in G. It's too high and not fair.
