Not doing a top 5 lists this week but cooking up something special for Substack.
In the meantime, some draft prospects I thought stood out in week 8
Miami QB Darian Mensah
Michigan CB Zeke Berry
SMU OT PJ Williams
Texas SAF Jelani McDonald
Arizona State EDGE Jalen Thompson

Man I know the Colts are trying to just fire sale but these are pretty weak terms for the best guard in football. This team’s in a lot of trouble.
And for the Seahawks, this could be the move that wins them the NFC West.
Trade! The Colts are sending eight-time Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson to the Seahawks for a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick, sources tell @ringer @netflixsports.

I’ll be honest, and I’ve vocally criticized the process of evaluating and grading college quarterbacks, but this seems incredibly short sighted and a bit ignorant from this executive.
Got a text from another personnel executive this morning, noting that this is the third straight QB class that has had similar problems.

A rough week for injury news
Sources: Mississippi State star QB Kamario Taylor will miss the rest of the season, as he faces surgery on his injured toe. Taylor has an appointment today to get his toe checked out by a specialist and could have surgery as early as tomorrow. He’s expected to make a full recovery.

Hate it for Dante and Oregon
I’ll be in the minority but he shouldn’t regret going back to school if he felt he wasn’t ready for the NFL.
Undoubtedly this muddies his draft stock but I still think he can be a long term NFL starter and should just declare.
NEWS: Dan Lanning announces that QB Dante Moore is not expected to return this season. He has not yet been cleared to play in games.
Moore hasn't played since the concussion against USC on Sept. 26.

Arizona State EDGE Jalen Thompson (9) has put together a really strong season for the Sun Devils. He's got a solid power profile and can win with impressive length and a nice rip move. Intriguing name to watch if he's keep producing.

There’s way too many Jets fans jumping to Mike Tomlin. Look at the league, Shanahan, McVay, Kevin O’Connell, Ben Johnson, Liam Coen, Klint Kubiak. Young offensive play calling gurus. Go get Drew Petzing or Declan Doyle.
If the #Jets were to fire Aaron Glenn, who do you think the next Head Coach should be❓

Aaron Glenn can’t be a head coach. Period.
He showed us time and time again and Jets fans gave him chance after chance that he didn’t deserve. He can’t be allowed back in the building tomorrow if @woodyjohnson4 has any guts. Time to actually find a head coach.

Dare I say this is Aaron Glenn’s worst defensive performance of his career so far and it’s against an 0-5 Dolphins team. Two 14+ play drives given up and down 14 points. This is a performance that should get you fired if it doesn’t turn around.

Texas State HC GJ Kinne is a top choice for me as is Tarleton State HC Todd Whitten. Sneaky pick? Houston OC Slade Nagle
I would advocate for Trooper Taylor getting a look as well, big recruiting asset, coached players like Arian Foster and Dez Bryant and is an alum

I don’t think Dan Lanning gets fired but there’s simply no excuse. Outcoached in every way today. He hasn’t built a staff to sustain losing both coordinators. His roster is overrated af. Needs to clean up and refocus this offseason.
Oregon gives up 21 points unanswered vs. Illinois to drop to 4-3 on the season 😳
They face Northwestern and Ohio State the next two weeks 👀

NC State’s list of candidates should be pretty similar to Maryland. I’d add Kennesaw State HC Jerry Mack and Liberty HC Jamey Chadwell as names to watch
NC State announces the firing of coach Dave Doeren
