This October, we mark 25 years since British Armed Forces first deployed to Afghanistan. As the Army’s national charity, we recognise their service, remember the sacrifice, and reflect on the lasting legacy of a campaign that affected thousands of military personnel, and their families, in the UK and overseas.
Although military operations have ended, the impact of the Afghanistan conflict continues to be felt by veterans and families today, and the ABF is and will remain steadfast in its support for all of those who are in hardship or need.
Whilst serving in Afghanistan in 2009, Gregg stepped on an IED, sustaining life-changing injuries and becoming a double amputee. Determined to rebuild his life, Gregg learned on social media about the ABF’s support for veterans, and went on to study at the Open University with the Disabled Veterans Scholarship Fund (DVSF). Today, Gregg has completed his degree, going on to study a Master's and a PhD, and is a Paralympic gold medalist.
