PSA: 95% of Youtube videos about AI is AI-generated slop or human-generated hype, while 90% of journalism about AI is uninformed guff. I’ve been watching this channel for a while, and he knows what he’s talking about. piped.video/R9momwXV9w4

That Mitchell and Webb Look Offensive Banned Sketches Full Episode
What worries me is that eleven problematic Mitchell and Web sketches is actualy enough material to make a whole episode. I'm terrified that a rightwing terrorist might edit them together, and create one uber offensive episode which could kill any diverse person that watches it.

Russians released new talking points. When they do this it means Australia did something awesome.

AI is getting cheaper more quickly than any other transformative tech in history. At a given level of performance, cost has fallen ~47%/quarter since 2023. That’s 4× faster than DNA sequencing, 6× faster than compute, 18× faster than lithium batteries, and (up to 1973) 54× faster than electricity.

Many such cases
An OpenAI agent swarm operating under poorly airgapped research conditions accessed my CBA Mastercard and bought 4 schooners of Newtowner between 5:52pm and 7:15pm last night

This whole AI thing and the responses around “taking away meaning in our lives” by doing stuff we value — has brought home to me that people have different philosophies about the purpose of life. 1/2

Like I never think about it much, but for me, it’s basically “to have a nice time”. The ideal work is like a hobby. For others, it’s about striving and achieving things *personally*. So this explains why what doesn’t bother me, seems to bother other people quite a lot.

most people who do self-depracating humor are just posers with low self-esteem who vastly exagerate their shortcomings not me though. I'm a genuine loser

Soulless slop or "good, actually"? All in the eye of the beholder, I suppose.
Claude Opus 5.5 writes a fugue in the style of Bach. I called Astra’s fugue the most impressive musical feat I’d ever seen from an LLM, and this is just as good. The circle-of-fifths sequence beginning at 1:13 is beautiful. The interplay of voices is natural and satisfying. LLMs are getting to the point where their music is good enough to listen to for pure enjoyment.

The Intelligence Index vs Cost per Task Pareto frontier shifted this week with the releases of MiMo-V2.6-Pro, Claude Opus 5.5, GPT-6 Luna, and GPT-6 Sol Together they have established eleven new points on the Pareto frontier (driven by different reasoning efforts): five from GPT-6 Luna, one each from MiMo-V2.6-Pro and GPT-6 Sol, and four from Claude Opus 5.5. GPT-6 Luna (max) scores 37 at $0.068 per task, MiMo-V2.6-Pro scores 46 at $0.13, GPT-6 Sol (max) scores 48 at $1.06, and Claude Opus 5.5 (max with fallback) is the new highest-scoring model at 58 at $5.98.

I asked Opus 5.5 to explain camera focus by building an interactive lens lab Here's what it came up with after 1 hour 26 minutes in one shot, $25.66 API cost lens.lab.sael.net Move the focus ring and you can see the glass elements shift the sharp plane through the scene

lol this feels like musical crack. It’s got every cliche in the book, and I’ve been mind-hacked.
I made this with one prompt using Opus 5.5 I spoke to my computer for 5mins, claude worked for 12 hours, and I woke up to this full prompt:

I see these things and I'm just like - clearly whatever I'm doing and thinking about isn't ambitious enough, and also who knows what even matters any more. the machines are eating the world

Good explanation from someone who works with agent “swarms” (there are less scary words for co-ordinating agents) providing good explanations for why they “go rogue” (again, other better words to describe this, not as scary). piped.video/AL-PQuB2wy0?si=Kv4k…

The good thing is that this can largely be avoided by providing agents with healthy and reasonable reminders of the big picture, so cultural obsessions don’t take hold, leading to unaligned decisions. As is so often the case, it’s a human skill issue.

This point about docs getting “poisoned” by a bad idea will be really familiar. At some point an agent write a note to do X. Things evolve, X doesn’t make much sense anymore, but other agents keep reading the note and shrug “well I guess this how we do things here”.
