I had reported someone to @facebook for telling me they "wondered what it would look like if (I) stopped breathing" Apparently that's chill.

I missed World Cancer Day by a day this year, but I'm gonna share this anyway like I do every year, because I made a promise 5 years ago. Listen to your body. If you think something is wrong, get checked. Someone who didn't, asked me to tell you her story. She was my wife and the mother of my child, Heather Reese Shortly after the birth of our daughter, Heather felt a lump. She didn't say anything for 5 months. After all, she was 31. Who gets breast cancer at 31? When she finally said something, her team was SURE it was a clogged milk duct. Because that was the logical answer. Cancer was not. But it wasn't a clogged milk duct. It was HER2 Positive breast cancer. The stage was 3b by the time treatment started. She fought it for a year, was pronounced cancer free, and sent on her way. 3 months later was her first seizure. That's when we discovered the cancer had gone to her brain, and she was now terminal. Heather was 35 when she died. Now I could never say that her saying something sooner would have ultimately changed things. Life doesn't work that way. But I can tell you SHE thought it would have, and that was a guilt she wouldn't wish on anyone. So she made me promise to share her story every year everywhere I can. And I do. Every once in a while, I get a message from someone saying that this story is what got them into the doctor's office, so will say it again with all the love in my heart... Listen to your body. To my retro games community: I didn't know Billy well. When we interacted, it was always in my museum, and he was always very kind and enthusiastic. What I DO know very well is the grief that comes with losing someone to cancer far too soon. So if anyone needs someone to talk about it that understands, absolutely reach out.
