Another factoid about the late, great Bob Pettit, who passed away Wednesday at age 93:
He was 1 of only 2 MVPs to be chosen from sub-.500 teams. He won the very first MVP with the St. Louis Hawks (33-39) in 1956 and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar did it with the Lakers (40-42) in '76.
Happy 90th birthday to Bob Pettit, HOFer/Top 75 legend.

So I went looking for an old feature story or Q&A I did with Bob Pettit in recent years. Tremendously underrated and overlooked power forward and Hall of Famer. RIP.
What popped up in my search was ... well, let's just say this A.I. stuff still has a few bugs.
Bob Pettit is the third best rebounder in NBA history, trailing only Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell. He is one of only four men in NBA history to average 20+ points and 20+ rebounds per game in the same season. The others are Wilt, Jerry Lucas, and Nate Thurmond.

In January 1965, Wilt Chamberlain spoke out after being traded from the San Francisco Warriors to the Philadelphia 76ers:
On advising against the trade:
"I told Ike Richmond, who is my lawyer as well as the 76ers counsel, that it could be a bad trade. I have no agreement with Philadelphia to play next season. I might retire, which means that the 76ers may have given up a lot just to have me for three months."
On Warriors owner Franklin Mieuli:
"I'm a businessman and I had an inkling that something was coming. Frank never consulted me and that's the only thing I know of that's against him."
