Why are people arguing with the fact that Hudson has cultural influence or can reasonably be described as a cultural phenomenon?
Cultural influence is about the impact a person has on culture and, more specifically, their ability to influence people's everyday choices.
People bought a $2 shopping bag because Hudson made it desirable. They recreate his looks, become interested in products, styles and even things they might otherwise overlook simply because he gave them visibility. That is moving the needle. A cultural phenomenon.
We have had extremely intelligent people on this show who made a genuine effort to immerse themselves in the experience: people like Miracle, Bisola, Nengi, Lolu, Ozo, Adekunle, etc.
Aikou gave absolutely nothing, so wanting to give him the money was wild! #bbnaija
The beauty of being a creative is that you have the licence to write, draw, sing, or create whatever your mind comes up with. You can pour your experiences, imagination, fears, desires and contradictions into your work and give them form.
You do not get to control what people take from your work simply because you know what you intended. You can explain your intention, clarify your choices and offer context, but you cannot dictate how an audience must interpret what you have created.
There is a fundamental diff between Hudson and Connor, I think we can see it in almost everything: their fashion choices, the films they gravitate towards, the careers they seem to be building, their approach to fame, and even how they navigate being perceived by the public. +
That is where I think some of the difference in how Hudson and Connor are received comes from. The person who fits the established template is easier to process; the person who keeps challenging the template is more likely to provoke debate.
One adapts beautifully to the landscape. The other changes the landscape.
Neither is inherently better. They are simply different kinds of artists, and it's interesting to watch.
Hudson strikes me as a disruptor. He creates a path where one did not previously exist. He seems more willing to experiment, to take the less obvious route and to challenge the expectations attached to what a young male actor is supposed to look, sound or behave like. +
Connor's Emmy fit really did not work for me, though Hudson looked lovely at the Bvlgari event, but I think the jacket could have fit him better. They have both had better looks. Their stylists, like every human being, have some hits and some misses.
It's Hudson’s world, we’re all just living in it 💥
