Last week in Sri Lanka, Australia & Indonesia hosted Bali Process Task Force on Planning & Preparedness & Working Group on Trafficking in Persons meetings to strengthen the region’s preparedness for irregular migration & boost cooperation on combatting trafficking & scam centres.

I am honoured to be appointed Australia’s Ambassador for Arms Control and Counter-Proliferation. As global risks rise, so must our resolve. I look forward to working with partners to champion strong non-proliferation standards, effective arms control and practical disarmament.

Grateful for Australia’s strong partnership with @UNODC in combating trafficking in persons and migrant smuggling across Southeast Asia and the Pacific - helping to strengthen regional cooperation, legal and criminal justice responses, and protection for vulnerable populations. Together, we are committed to raising awareness of emerging criminal threats and working to stay ahead of those who seek to exploit others.

Transnational crime is increasingly borderless, digital and interconnected. At #UNTOC2026, Australia reaffirmed its commitment to working with partners to disrupt criminal networks, tackle trafficking and forced criminality, and protect people from exploitation.

I joined colleagues from across @dfat and @NessZim, CEO @pillar_two, to discuss modern slavery, responsible business conduct and investment. Tackling modern slavery requires strong partnerships and discussion to protect human rights across global supply chains.

100 years ago, Australia became an original signatory to the 1926 Slavery Convention. R.G. Casey represented Australia during negotiations. A century on, modern slavery persists. Ending it demands action from governments, business and civil society.

Countries can’t tackle issues like people smuggling or scams alone. Bali Process Senior Officials' Meetings in Bangkok that I co-chaired with Indonesia affirmed commitment to action and underscored the forum’s enduring strategic value as we approach its 25th anniversary in 2027.

Stopping scams starts with stopping the criminals behind them. Australia is working with regional and global partners through joint operations, intelligence sharing and victim protection efforts to dismantle online scam centres and reduce scam harm. #ScamsAwarenessWeek
