It's because of the policy that's already in place." He points to three specific mechanisms. A September 30 change in PCE methodology. Could cut the reported year-over-year rate by 20 to 40 basis points on its own. Tariff effects fading over time. Flash-memory price effects normalizing. Here's the oil math specifically. If crude stays near $100, it stops adding to inflation six months from now. Simply because the year-over-year comparison flattens out. For inflation to actually accelerate instead, Lee says three things would need to happen. Housing costs rise sharply. Oil push toward $150. Memory prices jump again significantly. If none of that happens, lower inflation "could eventually allow the Fed to walk back some of that hawkishness." Here's the part that matters for crypto and risk assets. Historically, peak hawkishness followed by a dovish pivot has predicted rallies in high-beta assets, including Ethereum and Solana. Past pattern, not a guarantee. The September 30 PCE revision is the first real test of Lee's thesis. Right now this is a forecast built on specific, falsifiable mechanics. Not a hope. A calendar with actual dates attached to it.
