The fundamental difference between myself and those who seem perfectly fine with our national decline is a matter of accountability. They look at deindustrialization, rising unemployment, surging food bank usage, insolvencies, a weak dollar, and abysmal hospital wait times and see nothing wrong. For them, a measly 1% increase in an economic report is a celebration; for me, it’s an embarrassment. They ignore that Canada has become a global outlier with MAID, expanding it to non-terminal patients (which is disturbing to say the least)… to the point where some have rejected it, found proper healthcare in America, and are alive today because of it. The difference is simple: if this was the outcome of a government I had repeatedly voted into power, I wouldn’t defend them. I wouldn’t focus my attention on everyone except them. I’d be encouraging you to vote differently. Apparently, demanding accountability makes me “unpatriotic.” But they only call me unpatriotic because I remember what this country used to be like, and what it still has the potential to be. I am loyal to Canada; whereas they are just patriotic to the new, diminished version of it that their chosen government created… I refuse to accept this decline as our new normal, and I refuse to quiet down. This country is worth fighting for, and we deserve a leadership that actually serves its people. It’s really not that foreign of a concept.
