In a better place. I think.
Much like how we had a feedback campaign for the Digital Fairness Act, there is now a place for you to give feedback on the EU Kids Act: ec.europa.eu/info/law/better… - Be polite - Write in your own words and using your own experiences - Emphasize how video games shouldn't have draconian age verification, private servers without age verification shouldn't be made illegal, etc.

All hands on deck! This is the biggest threat to Stop Killing Games yet! The EU #KidsAct could end #StopKillingGames by collapsing the EU gaming market and making private and community servers illegal!: youtu.be/mQRcK9nYg9g "The best thing you can do is spread the word...The people who write this crap do not like it when the public at large knows what they're trying to do to you" - @accursedfarms Don't just take our word for it, here's the EU Kids Act to see for yourself. Time to sue Sony! DoesItPlay? and @StopKilingGames are announcing that we're backing SM&C's (Stichting Massaschade & Consument) lawsuit against Sony over its total control of PlayStation Store pricing. We're putting our full weight behind SM&C's case, with the Dutch court. SM&C has to show the court it actually represents gamers, not just claims to. Our support backs that up globally. Every Dutch gamer who signs on backs it up directly. If you're a Dutch PlayStation owner, this is where you come in: massaschadeconsument.nl/coll… Signing on there is what proves to the court that real gamers, not just a foundation, stand behind this. This is a class action lawsuit, so even if you're technically covered without signing up, your name on the record is what counts. Not in the Netherlands? This is one front of many. More coming.

534 days. ⏳Physical games don't just support players— they support thousands of independent game stores around the world. Behind every independent game store are real people, real jobs, and real families. The end of physical games affects far more than what's on our shelves. @PlayStation @Sony Don't leave us behind 💿

Gamers need to abandon the “loyalty” mentality towards corporations🚀 This is a business. Their only measure of value is money. They don’t care about you. They aren’t your friends. They won’t give you anything when you pretend to like and agree with everything they do In fact, it only reinforces hubris, and lack of accountability. Focus on your self-interest, not your “dedication” to those who only see their own self-interest. Gaming fell off when you started to have parasocial relations with corporations NO DISC 💿 NO BUY Demand better games Your money and voice are your power💪🏼🕹️

Dear @asha_shar @XBOX On behalf of VGP, we would like to share our perspective as a retailer that has proudly supported the gaming industry and the Xbox brand for many years. When Microsoft originally introduced the vision for the Xbox One with a strong emphasis on digital ownership, the response from consumers was immediate. Sony took advantage of that moment by positioning the PlayStation 4 as the console that embraced physical game ownership, and history shows how influential that decision became. Today, the market is shifting once again. Sony appears to be moving further toward a digital-first future, creating an opportunity for Microsoft to differentiate itself by becoming the industry's strongest advocate for physical media. We encourage Microsoft to revisit Project Helix and make physical games a core part of its strategy. There remains a passionate and dedicated audience that values collecting, preserving, lending, trading, and truly owning the games they purchase. As a retailer, we see that demand every day. The saying "what goes around comes around" feels especially relevant. Years ago, Sony benefited by championing physical ownership while Microsoft moved toward digital. Today, Microsoft has an opportunity to reverse that narrative and become the company that stands behind consumer choice. Many gamers still look back on the Xbox 360 era as the golden age of Xbox. The platform was synonymous with innovation, great games, and strong relationships with both players and retail partners. We believe Microsoft can recapture much of that goodwill by reaffirming its commitment to physical gaming and by bringing Project Helix to market. As one of Microsoft's retail partners, we believe a renewed investment in physical media would benefit consumers, retailers, publishers, and Xbox itself. We respectfully encourage you and your leadership team to consider this opportunity and help usher Xbox back to the position of industry leadership that so many fans remember. Thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to seeing Xbox continue to innovate while supporting the millions of players who still value physical game ownership. Sincerely VGP

Sony is completely ignoring the huge backlash for the killing physical media and ownership. Don't let them get away with it. Voice your disgust under every post they put out until they change course.

Smaller (PC) publishers taking matters into their own hands. If only this would be possible on console too. If only Sony would just let a third party take over production, instead of choking physical media to death.

Physical games have always been more than just a format to us — they are history you can hold in your hands. For nearly 40 years, VGP has been part of that history. From the early days of gaming through generations of consoles and changing industry trends, we’ve remained committed to one simple idea: that physical games deserve to be preserved, shared, and enjoyed long after their initial release window has passed. Over the years, that mission has evolved into something we are especially proud of — helping bring hard-to-find and out-of-print titles back into circulation so new and returning players alike can experience them. Whether it’s reprinting rare games, supporting collectors, or making overlooked titles accessible again, we’ve always believed that great games shouldn’t disappear just because time moves forward. As the industry continues to evolve toward digital-first distribution, we recognize that change is inevitable. But we also believe that physical games continue to hold a unique place in the hearts of players around the world — as collectibles, as cultural artifacts, and as an experience that digital alone cannot fully replace. Whatever the future holds, VGP remains deeply committed to supporting physical gaming for as long as there is demand and passion for it. We will continue doing what we’ve always done: preserving games, serving collectors, and ensuring that physical media remains part of the gaming landscape for generations to come. We don’t see physical games as something fading away — we see them as something worth preserving. And we intend to keep doing exactly that. — The VGP Team

Lying with statistics is indeed one of the great magic tricks of the video game industry. When it comes to the physical media debate, we've been observing bad faith actors pushing an agenda through skewered data for years.
PLEASE READ AND UNDERSTAND: We have to talk about the physical vs digital data, A LOT of people still buy Physical games on PS5. More than you think, like WAY MORE! Please read and understand what Sony is doing it trying to FORCE DIGITAL games! IMO this should not even be legal: - FY2025 Full Year (Apr 2025 – Mar 2026) = the digital to physical split was 78%/22%. But this does NOT tell the whole story. Because this is all games sold, not all games that have physical copies and digital! So majority of the 78/22 split don't even have physical, let's look at some real numbers from leaks and stats we have: From Insomniac Leak: - God of War Ragnarök: 76% Physical / 24% Digital - Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga: 63% Physical / 37% Digital - Astro Bot: 55% Physical / 45% Digital - Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: 54% Physical / 46% Digital - Assassin's Creed Mirage: 49% Physical / 51% Digital - Resident Evil 4 Remake: 45% Physical / 55% Digital - Hogwarts Legacy: 44% Physical / 56% Digital - Star Wars Jedi: Survivor: 40% Physical / 60% Digital UK / Europe Retail Data (GSD – 2023/2024): - Astro Bot: 55% Physical (UK) / and 60% Physical (Europe) – 2024 - Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: 54% Physical (UK) – 2023 - Assassin's Creed Mirage: 49% Physical (UK) – 2023 - Hogwarts Legacy: 45% Physical (UK) – 2023 - Resident Evil 4 Remake: 45% Physical (UK) – 2023 - Horizon Forbidden West: 51% Physical (UK) – 2022 People still buy a lot of physical games on PS5, especially when it's SINGLE PLAYER GAMES. When it's more mp then it goes down to more digital. But please don't just listen to the 78%/22% split, those numbers are overall numbers and don't represent the full story AS YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE! Because it's not a fair comparison since all games don't have a physical copy or eventually stop printing it. They are trying to paint a narrative to control prices and take ownership from you, that is the truth and spread it!

Thank you for sharing this. Your story is exactly why this discussion matters. For us, this has never been just about whether games come on a disc or as a download. Physical games represent consumer choice, affordability, game preservation, ownership, lending, gifting, collecting, and access for people who can't always afford to buy new digital titles at full price. Many players have memories like yours—finding used games, trading with friends, borrowing from family, or saving up for a special collector's edition. Those experiences have been part of gaming for decades. We'll continue speaking up because we believe players should have the option to choose how they buy and enjoy their games. Supporting digital distribution and preserving physical releases don't have to be mutually exclusive. We believe there's room for both. Thank you for adding your voice to the conversation. Every respectful message helps demonstrate that this issue matters to many players, and we'll continue advocating for that choice alongside the community.
Sorry, I'm going to keep speaking up about this because it genuinely means a lot to me. @PlayStation, please reconsider the decision to move to a digital only future. I've spent hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars on Sony products over the years. I recently bought a PS5 Pro with the disc drive, and I've been a PlayStation Plus subscriber for years. Do I buy digital games? Absolutely. Like most people, I appreciate the convenience. But I also make a point to buy physical copies because ownership matters. I never know if there will come a day when I can't download one of my favorite games anymore or lend it to a friend. Physical media isn't just about collecting plastic cases. It's about preserving something that genuinely means something to me. I'm also the kind of fan who buys collector's editions of the series I love. More often than not, I end up buying multiple copies of the same game because I want to support the developers while also owning a physical version that I can keep for years to come. This is personal for another reason. I grew up in a low income family. My parents couldn't afford to buy my brothers and me every new game we wanted, but they always did everything they could. They waited for sales, bought used copies, traded games, and stretched every dollar to give us experiences we never would have had otherwise. Those games became some of my favorite childhood memories, and I'm forever grateful for the sacrifices they made. Without physical media, many of those moments simply wouldn't have been possible. Please don't take that choice away from future generations of players.
