I used to be critical of accountants/accounting firms for working too many hours.
Specifically, January through April and then in the fall.
I was young and on a crusade to change the industry.
Some things are out of your control, and working long hours just comes with the job.
But there are a lot of things you can control to help manage your hours.
Is trying to manage and spread work over the year the best way?
No.
Do I care if you prefer to have busy seasons vs. not having to work >40 hours/week? Not anymore.
Do I care if you think there's no other option and don't want to work crazy hours? 100%!
Is it possible to make as much money working <40 hours week vs. someone who has busy seasons? Yep! And vice versa.
I'm on team spread the work out. Why?
Because being unavailable for almost 1/3 of the year is not worth it to me.
