The spotlights shone brightly on @RealHughJackman at @BostonCollege last night! The Grammy, Emmy, Tony, and Golden Globe winning performer can now add “honorary BC Eagle” after an incredible performance at Pops on the Heights: The Barbara and Jim Cleary Scholarship Gala. Also featured were Joseph Gilhooly '27, Louise Miniter ’29, Mark Moitoso '29, the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, University Chorale, and “Screaming Eagles” Marching Band. This year’s event raised $12.4 million, bringing the gala’s total to over $180 million for more than 4,000 scholarships since 1993. Thank you to all Pops attendees past and present whose generosity, loyalty, and spirit have made the Boston College dream a reality for a generation of Eagles!

He transferred to @BostonCollege as a junior, but in just two years BC impacted John T. Hayden ’70 so much that he left a lasting legacy to his alma mater. In recognition of a $55 million gift from his estate, the integrated science building 245 Beacon Street was renamed John T. Hayden Hall, and a John T. Hayden Theatre Department Fund will be established in his memory. Members of the Boston College community gathered last week to celebrate the building dedication as University President Jack Butler, S.J., blessed the facility and John’s friends Oz Hanley ’70, Jerry Cambria ’70, and Matthew McEntee ’70 unveiled the building's signage. “John didn’t spend money on himself. Boston College awarded two members of our community while recognizing two meaningful legacies, of special note as Hispanic Heritage Month begins today. Janely Cruz Fuentes '27, co-president of the @BostonCollege Mexican Association of Students, was awarded the 2026 Saint Oscar A. Romero Scholarship, which recognizes a BC junior whose life demonstrates the values and ideals of the martyred Salvadoran archbishop. Finalists are chosen based on superior academic achievement, extracurricular leadership, community service, and involvement with the Hispanic/Latinx community and issues both on and off campus. Yvonne C. Castañeda, MSW’18, director of Community-Based Initiatives at the BC School of Social Work @BCSSW, was honored with the 2026 Rev. John A. Dinneen, SJ, Hispanic Alumni Community Service Award, which recognizes a BC alum of Latin American descent whose work and service reflects Archbishop Romero’s ideals and the late Fr. Dinneen’s commitment, leadership, and service to the Latino community. “It is really a profound honor to receive an award that venerates St. Oscar Romero,” Yvonne said. “He believed that true faith requires that we stand with those who are suffering, even when it comes with a great deal of personal risk.
