The man behind Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream, Wes Craven passed away 11 years ago today at 76 years old 🕊️ Leaving behind a career that helped reshape the genre across multiple generations. Craven first pushed boundaries with films like The Last House on the Left and The Hills Have Eyes, before writing and directing A Nightmare on Elm Street and introducing the world to Freddy Krueger. More than a decade later, he reinvented himself again with Scream. Its mixture of suspense, humor, and characters who understood the rules of horror helped breathe new life into the slasher genre, with Craven returning to direct the next three installments as well. Director (Scream) Director / Writer (A Nightmare on Elm Street) Director (Scream 2) Director / Writer (The Hills Have Eyes) Director / Producer (Scream 4) Director (Scream 3) Director / Writer (Wes Craven’s New Nightmare) Director / Writer / Editor (The Last House on the Left) Director (Red Eye) Director / Writer (The People Under the Stairs) Director (The Serpent and the Rainbow) Director (Music of the Heart) Even Music of the Heart showed that Craven could step completely outside the genre that made his name, while films like Red Eye demonstrated that he could create tension without relying on supernatural monsters or masked killers. Eleven years later, horror still carries Wes Craven’s fingerprints everywhere. Rest in peace to one of the filmmakers who taught generations of audiences what it meant to be truly afraid. 🕯️

Most footage like this doesn't exist. This does, because the whole night was filmed for pay-per-view. Philly, June 1989. Ozzy sings with Jack on his shoulders, ears covered, while Aimee and Kelly run the front of the stage. Zakk Wylde couldn't get a smile out of him either.
