I hate querying. Hate it. Form rejections and CNRs. How am I supposed to know why I’m not getting anywhere without feedback?
Yes, my query letter and opening pages have been critiqued and workshopped by other writers and even an agent who doesn’t rep my genre.
I sent out 12 queries in September. I’ve had 3 form rejections and no other replies so far. I’ll aim to send another 12 in October.
Do I think I’ll land an agent? No.
Will that stop me trying? Also no.
The last time I booked a trip abroad was a once-in-a-lifetime stay in Shanghai. In April 2020. Funnily enough it was cancelled 😷
Circumstances have changed a lot since then, and so I’m super excited that I finally booked another trip 🥳 I’ll be going to Athens in 2027!! 🇬🇷
Wrote 1000 words this morning of a short story (more of a scene snippet but it’s a standalone project anyway) and then edited 1K words for another writer. Not bad for a day when I wasn’t sure I’d sit down at my laptop.

A teen student came into my school library asking for witchy books. I recommended a witchy book, a mermaid book, and a curse book. He picked the curse book. Which was a very cool moment for me, because he picked the book that I wrote 🥹
Up to 16K words in the new WIP. I think 2000 per week is achievable but I’d like to do more if I can. Especially as a new idea has already started vying for space in my head… 👀
How's querying going so far?
This is my fifth book attempting to secure an agent.
Queries Sent: 12, all submitted during September 2026
Form Rejections: 3 (25% of submitted queries)
Outstanding Queries: 9 (75% still under consideration)
Tomorrow I’m doing reading, selling & signing at the Red House Glass Cone in Stourbridge, West Midlands. Come see me and lots of other local & indie authors!
Last night I managed to make it to 15K words on my new WIP. 1/4 of the way to the finished manuscript! 🥳
I haven’t set a deadline yet (still figuring out my writing capacity this academic term) but I’m hoping to be most of the way through the first draft by end of the year 🤞
