Although he doesn’t acknowledge his previous support for tariffs unilaterally imposed by Donald Trump, it’s nice to see a prominent Republican speaking out against them now.
Prices are too high and Canada is not our enemy. We need to end the tariff war — now.
In the Senate, I’ll bring both parties together to lower costs and put Michigan families first.
Highest personal income taxes in the world? Wow, that will sure make B.C. more competitive & better able to stand up to Donald Trump…as it becomes more difficult to attract the talent needed to needed to fix our failing health care system and build our economy (sarcasm). 🤪

New Ipsos polling commissioned by the Energy Futures Institute finds strong support among British Columbians for a new oil pipeline to BC’s south coast, LNG, & consumer choice in home heating and vehicles.

Premier Eby says gas-price regulation could save 20¢/L.
In 1996, a NDP gas-price inquiry led by Mark Jaccard pointed to market forces as the best way of regulating prices & warned about regulation.
Mark Jaccard was Chair of the BCUC then...and is again today.
What's changed?
BC Hydro's latest report to the BC Utilities Commission and its recently released financial statements reveal $2.1 billion in net electricity imports over 3 years.
BC Government requires 26% of new vehicle sales to be zero-emission in 2026, yet BC Hydro’s own fleet is just 2.9% fully-electric. It operates 9× as many regular hybrids as EVs, but hybrids don't count under BC's regs even though many are built in Canada. No EVs are made here.🤷♂️
The politics of energy has to catch up to the province's realities, rather than expecting the realities to wait.

Energy interdependence cuts both ways.
BC exports lots of natural gas, but has relied on large volumes of electricity and refined fuels imported from the USA. As any economist will tell you, trade benefits both parties to the exchange. energyfuturesinstitute.ca/ne…
I told Global News that BC Hydro’s purchase of the Island Generation gas-fired power plant is another acknowledgement the BC Government's plan to phase out natural-gas is not realistic. When the lights must stay on, physics eventually trumps politics. #ENERGY#BCPOLI
BC Energy Minister Dix is expected to confirm this morning that BC Hydro is buying a natural gas power plant in Campbell River. This is quite a reversal from plans a few months ago to shut it down by the end of October. It is a step towards energy realism over ideology. #BCPoli
As we heard loud & clear at the @PNWER 2026 Summit this week, more LNG is needed on the west coast to reduce emissions from shipping. BC has an opportunity to fill this need after today’s announcement about the $2 billion Tilbury expansion project.

BC Hydro is hunting new mega-dams…but it’s not mainly due to LNG. CleanBC’s policies are driving more than twice the extra demand. Reality check - follow the policies, not just the LNG terminals. #BCEnergy#CleanBCfinancialpost.com/globe-news…
Excerpt:
"It’s unrealistic to think you can have (only) intermittent sources,” Penner said. “You have to put a bit of water in your wine,” by allowing consumers to use natural gas, such as through the use of electric heat pumps with gas-backup capacity.

The BC Government is now okay with natural gas for power generation, but it’s CleanBC policy still calls for an effective ban on natural gas for heating of new homes & offices by 2030…driving up demand for natural gas electricity generation. 🤨

At 4:51pm on May 28th as the BC Legislature was adjourning for summer, BC Hydro’s plan to keep the lights on in 2030 was posted on the BC Utilities Commission website. Amazing coincidence!
Is there something the BC Government hopes you don’t notice?

Interesting announcement from Telus & the Federal Government yesterday about plans for new ‘sovereign’ data centres in B.C.
If the required 150 megawatts of electricity are imported from the USA, are the data centres still sovereign?
