"A regulatory panic could result in a small number of Americans deciding for everybody else what speech, ideas and even questions are permitted in the name of 'safety' or 'alignment.'" -@glukianoff
Later today, I’m headed to the floor to try and force a vote to get urgent protections done around AI. We cannot wait any longer. We must take action to put some guardrails on this tech before something catastrophic happens.

“I remember when mom would make me stay at the dinner table until I finished my vegetables. Dad would sit with me, then eat them off my plate when she wasn’t looking” Overheard my teenage daughter telling the story tonight. I had completely forgotten about that. 🥹

I always imagine Trump’s lawyers spending hours coming up with three exquisitely neutral, painstakingly lawyered reasons they can legally justify doing something censorial. Then Trump Truth-Tweets: “TO BE VERY CLEAR: I AM DOING THIS BECAUSE I DON’T LIKE THEIR COVERAGE!!! THIS IS VIEWPOINT DISCRIMINATION, AS BARRED BY THE FIRST AMENDMENT!!! THAT IS THE REASON!!! VERY DELIBERATE. THANK YOU!!!”
Trump posted this at 3:04 pm ET

This is rad. The AI debates should to be argued in good faith, by people who know what they are talking about.
I built a Neural-Symbolic AI tool which models the belief systems of the AI Triad (Accelerationists, Safteyists, and Skeptics). I call this the AI Rosetta Stone. One of the functions is the ability to generate (mock) Op-Eds to see how different camps view a common topic. I ran this on the topic of AI Slow Down and the results were fascinating. I bet you it brings up points you hadn't considered. What is really cool is that is also provides the 'grounding' for the op-ed - the specific Beliefs, Desires, and Intentions which form the basis of the opinion. Make sure you check out the arguments from the camps you don't align with and to check out their grounding! taxonomy-editor.yellowbush-a… I'd love to hear what you think and if you learned anything.

If they really wanted to slow AI’s development, they’d be asking Apple how they did it with Siri.

Everyone knows China will not agree to anything on AI right? Everyone is talking about some grand deal on AI but you do all realize this is a complete and total pipedream with unicorns right?

Not sure about the traditions for national dog day. I like to take the time to reflect on how fast my wife went from “a small dog would be nice.” To fostering, to adopting to, now I have a purse dog that goes to a groomer. Cookie’s owners passed and the family could not take care of her. They said she had allergies and could not go outside, she was trained to use pee pads. That shit stopped the minute she moved in. She had no allergies. She has asserted herself as number 2 (out of 4) in the pecking order and takes no shit from number one. Goofy little dog that spreads joy wherever she goes. Dogs man… I am really glad we domesticated them and not something dumb like lizards, or squirrels or something.

Dolly Parton spent, what, 70 years in the public eye? And in all that time, all she ever did was bring joy to people. That's a legacy beyond the reach of praise.

Dear non-Muslims, it is ok to be afraid of Islam. It has not been very kind to you for 1,400 years. There is no such thing as Islamophobia. It is a term invented by those who do not wish for anyone to scrutinize Islam. Carry on.
Dear non Muslims , Stop being afraid of Muslims. We are not your enemies.

I write this from the floor of my laundry room, encircled in cat nip, like some weird ritual. We have a lot of pets, but this story is about the cats and the snake. We have 2 cats, one scrawny black dumpster kitty, and one sweet fat Garfield type. I am a dog person, but the kids wanted cats and they have grown on me. We also have a snake, I tried to talk the kids out of this, but there is no way to convey how boring snakes are to kids. Victor is a ball python, big for a ball python, but anaconda he is not. At ~3:20am in the wee hours of August 4th there was a commotion in the house and the dogs were barking. They do this often, we all went back to sleep. Well it turns out, Frito (the fat cat), was sleeping on top of the snake cage. His weight was enough to bend the screen and the lid fell into the tank. The snake did not like his nee roommate and took off slitherin’. This must have been what startled the dogs. I spent a lot of time searching for that snake, I tore the room apart. All of this under the watchful eye of dumpster kitty, she would not come down from above the closet. Dumpster kitty usually hangs out in my closet, not my daughter’s room. That’s when it hit me! The cat is up there because she does not want to be in her own closet! Sure as shit, that fuckin snake slithered across the house, through the master, and into the closet. Snake secured, surely the cat will come down soon. 24hrs later she is still above the closet. We get a ladder and bring her down to the laundry room, she must need to use the litter box and get a drink right? Nope. 12 hours later and now she lives behind the washing machine. So now I am on the floor, surrounded by catnip, summoning my cat like some kind of cat wizard; and I have nobody to tell this stupid story to.

...until they redefine what it means to be a criminal. I'm old enough to remember when a concerned parent being at a PTA meeting was cause for them to start a case file on you. The answer is "no" Private Citizen, Public Official. What we really need are cameras and microphones on our elected officials and government service employees.
Replying to @mattvanswol
Flock cameras help police find stolen cars, and arrest criminals, murderers, rapists. I have no problem with them. since I'm not a criminal.
