We do students a disservice when we pretend that science exists in some weird place outside of society and itβs not done by humans. That doesnβt mean you need to have a specific political agenda in your class but to imagine yourself, your classroom, and your students as divorced

is not the same thing as preaching YOUR political opinions in class. Choosing to pretend that science does exist in a vacuum and youβre excused from acknowledging any other context because you consider yourself a purely technical person IS political.

Respectfully, reminding your students that science doesnβt exist in a vacuum (itβs done, evaluated, funded, shared, and utilized by humans who do not function like robots and do have politics) and they should think about that that means for them, their work, and their communities
