The Government has provided funding to eight community organisations supporting programmes in youth development, family services, health and wellness, sport, technology, culture and community development. Seven organisations received $12,500 each through the Confiscated Assets Fund, while the Bermuda Heritage Museum received $40,000 to support its work preserving and sharing Bermuda’s history. This investment reflects the Government’s continued commitment to supporting organisations that strengthen our communities and contribute to Bermuda’s social, cultural and economic wellbeing.

Minister of Education Diallo Rabain welcomed 12 new teachers to the Bermuda Public School System during the Bermuda Teacher Induction Programme New Teacher Orientation. In recognition of World Alzheimer’s Month, free counselling and support groups are available for caregivers supporting someone with a health condition, disability, long term illness or significant care needs. The Ministry of Public Works and Environment is pleased to share continued progress on the restoration of St. David’s Lighthouse, with the new telecommunications tower structure now complete. Work is underway to prepare the new tower for the relocation of telecommunications equipment currently housed at the Lighthouse. All tower related works are anticipated to be completed by December 2026, with restoration of the Lighthouse expected to begin shortly thereafter. Once the equipment has been relocated, technical officers will conduct a comprehensive assessment to determine the full scope of restoration required. The Government remains committed to restoring this important Bermuda landmark and reopening it to the public.

Consumer spending increased by 2.6% year-over-year in the first quarter of 2026, reaching $827.7 million. Spending increased across both goods and services, including a 9.7% rise in durable goods, reflecting increased household expenditure and economic activity during the quarter. 🚲 In Case You Missed It: E-Bike Owners, Get Compliant If you own an e-bike and intend to ride it on Bermuda’s public roads, now is the time to ensure you’re meeting the legal requirements. E-bikes must be registered and licensed with TCD, riders must hold the appropriate licence, vehicles must have valid third-party insurance, at a minimum, and riders must wear a certified helmet. E-bike owners have until 31 October 2026 to take the necessary steps to make their machines roadworthy. TCD will also offer Saturday inspections and registration from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., beginning 26 September. Progress is moving forward at St. David’s Lighthouse. The new telecommunications tower structure is complete, clearing the way for equipment to be relocated from the Lighthouse before restoration works begin. Physical renovation is currently anticipated to start in January 2027, with the Government working towards reopening the Lighthouse for the 2027 summer season. The goal is clear: restore this important public asset and get it back open for people to use.

Bermuda Strengthens Regional Partnerships as Corrections Reform Continues Commissioner of Corrections Keeva Joell-Benjamin recently represented Bermuda at the 14th Annual Conference of the Association of Caribbean Heads of Corrections and Prison Services in Kingston, Jamaica. Bringing together correctional leaders and experts from across the Caribbean, the conference explored shared priorities including institutional security, staff wellbeing, professional development, mental health, rehabilitation and reintegration. The engagement forms part of the ongoing work by the Ministry of Justice and Department of Corrections to advance reforms following the independent Review Panel Report, alongside Bermuda’s continued partnership with His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service in the UK. Bermuda’s economy grew by an estimated 0.5% in real terms during the first quarter of 2026, building on the positive momentum recorded in 2025. Growth was supported by increased household expenditure and construction activity.
