Nigeria is watching Dangote Refinery enter the stock market.
4.1 billion shares.
₦525 per share.
A ₦2.15 trillion offer.
For many Nigerians, this is their first time seriously thinking about owning a piece of one of the country's biggest companies.
Now imagine the same idea, but instead of your exposure sitting entirely inside the traditional financial system, a digital representation of that stock exists on a blockchain.
That is where tokenized stocks get interesting.
A tokenized stock is not simply “a stock with crypto attached to it.”
It is a blockchain-based representation designed to track the economic performance of an underlying stock or ETF.
And there is an important distinction here:
owning a tokenized representation does not automatically make you a direct shareholder of the underlying company.
You shouldn't assume you get the same voting rights, legal ownership or shareholder relationship that comes with holding the actual equity.
That distinction matters.
Because if someone told you:
“This is Dangote Refinery on-chain.”
your next question shouldn't be “how do I buy it?”
It should be:
“What exactly am I owning?”
That's one of the reasons I find the direction of tokenized stocks interesting.
The company doesn't have to change.
Dangote Refinery is still Dangote Refinery.
The underlying stock is still the underlying stock.
What changes is the infrastructure through which financial exposure can be represented, transferred and accessed.
@MEXC is already participating in this shift through its Tokenized Stocks offering, including tokenized stocks from Ondo that trade on its Spot market.
@MEXC has added multiple Ondo tokenized-stock pairs throughout 2026.
And that creates a much bigger question for the financial system:
If ownership, exposure and settlement can increasingly be represented on-chain, what parts of the traditional stock market actually need to remain locked inside the old infrastructure?
That doesn't mean blockchain automatically makes investing better.
It doesn't remove market risk.
It doesn't turn a token into direct equity ownership.
And it certainly doesn't mean every stock needs to become a token.
But the Dangote IPO is a useful reminder of something bigger:
Nigerians don't just want to hear about financial markets anymore.
They want access to them.
And as traditional assets move closer to blockchain infrastructure, the interesting question may eventually become less about whether stocks can be tokenized…
and more about what a stock market looks like when the asset and the infrastructure underneath it finally speak the same language.

The ARC token has been minted.
Circle is the first publicly traded company to mint a network token for a new blockchain.
This is a technical milestone in the Arc roadmap as the network explores a future transition from Proof of Authority toward Proof of Stake.
The minting of ARC does not represent any commitment to a public launch of the token.
ARC is not live, tradeable, available for public use, or active for staking, governance, fees, or utility. The Arc network remains Proof of Authority today. Future ARC functionality and activation remain subject to change.
