He was behind the organised mass of English MPs to Glasgow by train from London during the 2014 referendum. He never had or has any intention of "granting" an referendum to Scotland. He gives no definitive route to independence. He never will. You can see it in his face.

A Freudian slip.... Burnham, "I think Britain works better...in the Union" He means England works better with this "Union."

I had no idea he was responsible for the “imperial march” event.

Andy Burnham's Role: Andy Burnham, then serving as the Shadow Health Secretary, boarded the train in Wigan. He publicly championed the trip as "the Labour family coming together" and argued that solidarity meant defending the union against risks to public services

He’s right about the impact on the North of England. In the lead up to the 2014 referendum the people I spoke to from Tyneside, Teesside and Merseyside were beside themselves with concern with the thought that the Scots were going to leave them .

Thats his opinion and yours. There have been a number of polls since in England showing an even split on whether England should be independent or not. Burnham is a Unionist and voices Unionist propaganda.

But Labour in Scotland’s new leader Michael Marr’s decision last week to vote in favour of the SNP bill supporting the right for Scottish people to decide their own future, is a move in the right direction despite Burnham’s intransigence and ambiguity.

They have to say that because if they don't say the right thing it exacerbates the entire situation.

So basically he doesn't think Scotland should have another referendum, because if it votes yes to become an independent country again it will be bad for the North of England...he literally just said that which tells you how they game all inward investment to Scotland.

Also, in his face, you can see that he knows he's wrong, by every metric. Weasel words from another English, WM weasel.

Then we need to stop asking permission and just consider ourselves free from the UK. What exactly are they going to do about it? Not much. Scotland and Wales should just leave the union.

If we are living in a democracy, is it in Burnham’s gift to decide?

Burnham was Broon’s Chief Secretary to the Treasury. He knows Scotland is essential to keeping England afloat.

What annoys me more is Swinney jumping on his earlier words as if they were the gateway opening when he knew absolutely that Burnham didn't say anything of the sort. It's one thing for Swinney to be gullible, it's another thing entirely to foist that gullibility on others.

Exactly. He is an out and out unionist and never had any intentions of listening to any of the devolved governments.
