n 1873, Jefferson Davis declared that at the close of the Civil War, Southerners had been “cheated, not conquered.” (Collins, "Death and Resurrection of Jefferson Davis," 2005, p. 21) Remind you of anyone?

And that is why Trump must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and all supporters, especially those in Congress should be banned from holding office. If there is no lesson learned, it is a wasted teaching moment.

Two people, actually: One claimed Germany didn't lose World War I but had been stabbed in the back by those who surrendered. The others (millions of them) claim Trump didn't lose the 2020 American election. Not a club anyone should want to join...

They were both cheated and defeated if you believe most popular accounts, but they couldn’t have been cheated if they weren’t already defeated.

Sadly, Lincoln did not force the issue of a signed peace treaty that included language of their crimes and unconditional surrender. I fear this is the whirlwind we still reap.

Donald needs to be indicted for his many crimes & court needs to issue a protective order against his use of social media & public statements to spread lies damaging to the republic & incite violence. Short of that, we are just counting the days before another insurrection.

It was our biggest mistake not to really have consequences for those traitors and to allow them back in to the Union and serve in Congress.

The part that always got to me was the slave OWNERS got reparations for each slave they could no longer own but the slaves themselves once "freed" had absolutely nothing after generations of providing free labor to the enslavers!

Has any nation that suffered a violent insurrection ever been so lenient in its treatment of the leaders of the rebellion? Remind you of any of anyone?

The same thread continues to be pulled. The South didn’t really lose the war, the Union cheated to win. They stole victory. The bravery & death of nearly 300,000 Union men, and maiming of others, did not really give the Union a victory😕

Hmmm ... “You know what we used to do in the old days when we were smart, right? The spies and treason, we used to handle it a little differently than we do now.”

Anybody believe that Trump could still long enough for four hours of the SATs and four years of class at Wharton? Funny, how that "cheating" gets used.

And, as Michael is certainly aware, the German army was never defeated in 1918, but instead "stabbed in the back" by traitors at home. That sounds familiar, too.

Ha! The MAGA Party reminds me of the Confederacy; indeed many of Trump's loudess supporters are from former Confederate states. Please recall that many "Dixiecrats" switched from the Democratic Party to Nixon's GOP after his racist dog whissles.
