In a detailed statement released by the University, PUMS described the ongoing legislative inquiry as 𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱. 𝗕𝗔𝗖𝗞𝗚𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗗 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗣𝗨𝗧𝗘 According to the University, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly publicly alleged that PUMS lacked transparency and mismanaged funds purportedly appropriated to the University for Rivers State Government scholarship students. PUMS states that it immediately rejected the allegations, demanded their withdrawal and a public apology, but neither was granted. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁: 1. No funds have ever been appropriated directly to PUMS, being a private university. 2. It had never been invited by the Assembly before this episode. 3. The Speaker's comments portrayed the University as guilty even before any inquiry commenced. 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗛𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗘𝗡𝗘𝗗 𝗔𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗜𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗘 Instead of withdrawing the remarks, the Speaker on Thursday, 3rd September 2026, constituted an Ad-hoc Committee to investigate the relationship between the Rivers State Government and PUMS. PUMS honoured the invitation and sent an official representative on Wednesday, 16th September 2026 with a formal letter and supporting documents. The University alleges that the Committee refused to recognize its representative, denied him audience, and rejected the documents he brought. 𝗪𝗛𝗬 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗪𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗧 Convinced that the process was designed to embarrass rather than establish facts, the University sought protection of the court. While the matter was still pending in court, the House of Assembly issued a warrant for the arrest of the Vice Chancellor on Friday, 25th September 2026. 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗙𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗦 𝗢𝗡 𝗦𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗔𝗥𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗣 𝗙𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚 A careful analysis of the records clearly shows that: 1. 𝗣𝗨𝗠𝗦 𝗗𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: As a private institution, Rivers State Government does not appropriate money to PUMS. All appropriations are made to the Rivers State Ministry of Education, which is the statutory supervisory body for the scholarship scheme. The Ministry holds all transaction records, agreements, and dealings. 2. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝘀, 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗣𝗨𝗠𝗦 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀: In practical terms, what the Government does is pay the tuition and fees of Rivers students admitted on merit - fees that would otherwise be paid by their parents. This is a standard global practice for government scholarship schemes in private universities. 3. 𝗣𝗨𝗠𝗦 𝗛𝗮𝘀 𝗙𝘂𝗹𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗜𝘁𝘀 𝗢𝘄𝗻 𝗢𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: The University categorically states it has fulfilled every obligation in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) - training, graduating, and retaining students. 4. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗺𝘀 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: For the past four months, despite outstanding fee payments, PUMS has kept about 600 Rivers State Government scholarship students on campus, bearing the cost of their tuition, feeding, accommodation and other expenses. This is a huge act of corporate responsibility and commitment to Rivers State. 1/2

Two days in Uyo and nobody begged me for money. This isn’t a real place. I bought banana at Ibom plaza, the woman waited for me to finishing eating it, just so I won’t litter the place. Imagine my shock when I went to the Stadium toilet and it was sparkling 😭😭 my god. I was in disbelief! The air is different, I didn’t see any agbero. Uyo is a sane City. So fucking serene.
