I recently filed an initiative with the Pierce County Auditor to change the the Pierce County Charter regarding the sheriff. This amendment would change the name from sheriff department to "Sheriff Office" (office means elected, department means appointed), and it would allow the sheriff to have a legal advisor of his/her own choosing. We are in the process of printing and distributing the sheets for signature gathering. We wanted to include them in the Tacoma News Tribune Sunday issue, but they will not let us.
