In August 2025, during the school holidays, a 16‑year‑old boy lost his life at the hands of his own peers, boys who should have been his friends. Kids who were idle, unattended, and pulled into drugs and gangs because no one was guiding them. This is our community problem!

As the children go back to school today, we can’t help but reminisce about the past three weeks of fun, learning, and memories. ❤️ They came for the holidays and are going back a little different: having played, learned, and grown. Here’s a glimpse of what we captured.

After 3 weeks of school holiday, our children go #back2school having maximized their time with us. 15/18 showed up consistently. They played, learned money lessons, made friends And because showing up for yourself deserves recognition, they earned 200 sats for every attendance.

While some children in our community are loitering and being exposed to drugs, today at NextGen Village, 13-year-old Sherryann is taking the stage to teach us why reading matters. It may seem small. But this is how we begin creating different possibilities. ❤️

One year ago, we started the Bitbiashara Coffee Hangouts. A simple idea: create a place where merchants, Bitcoiners, curious minds and anyone with questions about Bitcoin could freely come, learn, ask questions, share ideas and connect. One year later, we’ve held 47 Coffee Hangouts. 47 Fridays of conversations, questions, onboarding, learning, laughter, new friendships and building a real Bitcoin community from the ground up. But somewhere along the way, this became much more than a Bitcoin meetup. For some, it has become a tradition. For others, a therapy session. 😂 We’ve built friendships, created business connections, opened doors to opportunities, shared ideas, supported one another and watched people grow. We share the books we’re reading, the quotes that moved us, the lessons we’re learning and the ideas that challenge the way we think. Most importantly, we keep uplifting each other. No gatekeeping. No complicated agenda. Just people coming together, week after week, to learn, connect, grow and figure out how Bitcoin can work in our everyday lives. One year later, we’re still here. ☕️₿ 47 down. Day 9 of our school holiday. Today we explored SKILLS, building on everything we’ve learned about value, trade, time preference, work and energy. Curious minds, questions, ideas and young people discovering that their skills have value. Most importantly, we were safe today.

17 children in our community spent two hours doing something meaningful instead of being idle. We explored the concept of value. what it is, why things have value, what determines value, and whether the value of an item can change over time, and why. A safe space. Curious minds.

With us child has something to do. Today we kicked off our holiday program with creativity, self-discovery and fun. Most importantly, our children spent the day safe, away from the harsh streets and in a space where they could simply be kids. Because every child has value.

Children are influenced into criminal gangs and drugs everyday. It isn't if they'll be influenced it's who gets to them first. Is it drug dealers and gang leaders, or safe spaces and a community that believes in them? Prevention starts with safe communities and spaces like ours.

Imagine you’re part of a chama. Every month, members send in their contributions. Before anything is written into the record book, the treasurer and committee checks a few things: ✔️ Did Akinyi really contribute? ✔️ Did Wanjiku send the correct amount? ✔️ Has anyone tried to claim they paid when they didn’t? Only after those contributions have been verified are they considered valid. That’s similar to what Bitcoin full nodes do. Full nodes independently verify every Bitcoin transaction by checking that it follows Bitcoin’s rules. They don’t trust anyone’s word for it, they verify everything themselves. Now comes the miners. Think of them as the people responsible for taking all those already verified contributions, bundling them into the next official page of the chama record book, and securing that page so nobody can secretly change it later. To do that, miners compete to solve a difficult mathematical puzzle known as Proof of Work. The first miner to solve it earns the right to add the next block to Bitcoin’s blockchain and receives newly issued bitcoin plus transaction fees as a reward. So while full nodes answer the question: “Is this transaction valid?” Miners answer: “Let’s securely add these valid transactions to Bitcoin’s permanent history.” Together, they keep Bitcoin honest, secure, and decentralized—without relying on a bank, company, or central authority.
