My wife caught me doing something weird on a walk yesterday. She stopped and said, "Why do you keep adjusting your stride to make sure you step over the sidewalk cracks? Are you a five-year-old?"
I said, "It's just a little game to keep my legs stretched out."
She shook her head, mumbled something about marrying a toddler, and kept walking.
Little does she know... the cracks are high-voltage laser tripwires. The neighborhood is heavily guarded by a rival syndicate, and if my shoe even grazes a fault line, the invisible snipers take the shot. My agility is the only thing keeping us alive on this trip to Starbucks.
