I found the photos from that day.
The last one is of BO (the dog) and his handler whose name I sadly forget.
Bo was searching for people for 18 hours.
They didn’t find anybody.
20 minutes down there
screwed up my lung for months.
I can’t image what it did to poor Bo.
My mother lived in New York City since 1984.
I lived part-time in New York City
Since 1991.
This singular event
Extracted the innocence from my soul.
And i instantaneously knew
i was never going to get it back again.
It’s still unique
In every bad way possible
I also remember that immediately after
NYC became a singular force.
A unified hive of humanity.
Unlike Trump I was at Ground Zero delivering food and water to the dust covered warriors.
10 blocks of food brigades, thousands of cups for washing the shit out of your eyes.
Every bottle of water you handed out,
It was like you just saved someone’s life.
Everyone was about to break,
But no one would, if you took a knee some random person would come and pick you up.
And you’d be surprised at how many jokes they were, at our own expense, just to force a smile to break the moment.
During the Apex of trauma and terror…
Every New Yorker everywhere reached over to the closest person and propped them up.
Sleeves rolled up, shoulders were there to be leaned on, and hands were given Freely.
During absolute carnage we came together.
I’ll never forget that moment in time when NYC folks had to show the country what strength looks like. And I’ll never forget that it was our primary instinct. Take care of each other.
Any other city would’ve been down for the count.
Don’t ever forget
NYC was UNIFIED for American Values
We need to remember that
Hugs for anyone who needs it.
