AOC called them “modern-day lynchings.” The autopsies called most of them suicides. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told America this week that Black people are being lynched again. Not one open case. A wave. “Widespread modern-day lynchings.” “Racial terror.” She signed Rep. Ayanna Pressley’s letter to the Attorney General and FBI Director demanding a federal investigation of “10 reported hangings of Black people” in 2026. Nearly 60 House Democrats signed on. X Community Notes hit the post immediately. Most of the high-profile hanging deaths cited from 2025–26 were ruled suicides by medical examiners and police, with no evidence of foul play. One case, Tasia Fortune in Mississippi, is being investigated as a homicide. The person of interest reported in that case is a Black man. Another death remains open. No public finding has identified a campaign of racial lynching, and no case on that list has an identified non-Black murderer. Hanging is also, tragically, a common method of suicide. That is not Jim Crow. This is the move. Take a real death, skip the autopsy, skip the local cops, skip the race of any suspect, and sell it as proof that America is hunting people by color. It works if your politics needs Americans afraid of each other. It falls apart the second the official findings are attached. Families deserve honest investigations. They do not deserve members of Congress turning suicides into a racial panic so the country stays split by skin. Every time the Left does this and the facts come in, the only thing that spreads is distrust, of police, of neighbors, and of anyone who still thinks the country is one people.
