There are certain qualities you should actively develop, whether you are single, dating or married. Personal growth should not begin because you want a relationship. It is about self-growth, self-preservation, self-discipline and becoming a better person.
1: Respect & humility: Learn how to speak to and treat people with respect, regardless of who they are.
2: Be a giver: Don't always be on the receiving end. Give kindness, support, time, appreciation and generosity too.
3: Conduct: Learn how to carry yourself properly, both privately and publicly. Character matters even when nobody is watching.
4: Contentment: Appreciate what you have while working hard for what you want. Don't exploit or depend on people to finance the life you desire.
5: Healthy relationships: Learn how to build them. Anyone you choose to love deserves kindness, commitment, consideration and mutual respect.
6: Bring your 💯: You cannot demand effort while giving none. Relationships require reciprocity so actively pour into each other.
7: Emotional safety: Heal from your past instead of making someone new carry the weight of old wounds. A relationship is not a cure for unresolved trauma.
8: Transparency: Be honest. Secrets, deception and half-truths gradually destroy relationships.
9: Boundaries: Set healthy boundaries that protect your peace, dignity and relationships.
10: Trust: Protect it. Trust takes time to build, seconds to damage and can be incredibly difficult to restore.
11: Never stop growing: Always leave room for self-improvement. Accept constructive criticism, reflect on your actions, acknowledge when you are wrong and be humble enough to remain teachable and approachable.
Ultimately, become the kind of person you would be proud to meet. Not because you are looking for someone, but because you owe yourself growth.
A healthy relationship should eventually benefit from the person you have worked to become, but your personal development should belong to you first.
