Hoping to inspire others to see the beauty of our native wildflowers and wildlife and thus help protect them.

It's a very niche area of botany, but I spent my day searching for coastal Atriplex hybrids and found plenty. Both in the River Fowey south of Lostwithiel.
A nice find today of a young Marsh Yellow-cress from Tamar Lakes in Cornwall. Not recorded here since 1984.
Not flowering , probably won't until spring next year.
Rorippa palustris
Vervain on a sandy road verge in Constantine, Cornwall today. Given that there's easily over 100 plants it's surprising this is a first monad record for them here.
Verbena officinalis
Tall Rocket on recently cleared sand dune at Par Sands, Cornwall today. See ALT for evidence of its long-lived seed.
Sisymbrium altissimum
ALT Recorded here in 1901, 1910, then 1929 and nothing until 2025 when the dunes were cleared of scrub back to bare sand. Hundreds of S. altissimum then appeared evidencing a long-lived seed bank. They'll probably disappear again as the dunes vegetate over.
Large, mature bushes of Prickly Saltwort on the beach at Par Sands, Cornwall today. Not something you should sit on or even near as the thorns are very sharp. Here, shown in fruit, however, the flowers lack petals entirely.
Rare in the SE of England.
Salsola kali
A white form of Japanese Rose, invasive in the dunes at Par Sands, Cornwall, but it has pretty flowers, so that's OK. 😉 Last photo shows one in fruit.
Lots of it has been ripped out of the dunes but it keeps coming back all the more.
Rosa rugosa
