A slow‑moving, high‑stakes storm has been creeping toward Colorado all week — a rare mash‑up of an autumn upper‑low and the juicy tropical remnants of Hurricane Polo — and for a moment, it looked like Boulder and Denver might finally score a true soaking. But as the atmosphere loves to do in 2026, the script flipped late for our area.

Beneficial rain is nearly off the table now. Best chance to see real rain is south of I-70 Wednesday afternoon and evening. Further north and west you are, the greater the chance you may be skipped entirely. #COWX

Will it be a soaker or a near miss for Boulder & Denver?
We’ve been watching Hurricane Polo for days, and its remnants are now lining up to collide with a strong Pacific upper‑low — a rare setup that could bring Colorado anything from a solid soaking to a total near‑miss. And as usual, Denver and Boulder are sitting right on that dividing line.
If the tropical energy pushes a little farther north, we’re talking a full‑day rain event with over an inch for much of the Metro area. If it stalls out earlier and south, most of us end up with clouds, scattered showers, and not much to show for it. Southern and southeastern suburbs have the best shot at meaningful rain, while northern cities might barely get brushed. Flooding concerns peak Wednesday afternoon and night, mainly south of town, and snow stays way up high thanks to all that tropical warmth.
Bottom line: Wednesday’s going to be a day to keep an eye on the radar — not because it’s guaranteed to be wild, but because we’re sitting on the razor’s edge of a truly unique storm setup. Much of Colorado will benefit from soaking rain, offering some recovery to the ongoing severe drought.

It's not often you see a Flood Watch cancelled, but that's how this storm is going. The four zones closest to Denver have been dropped as the big, wet Southwest soaker trends further south and east away from the Front Range.

MONDAY 9/28 1PM UPDATE:
Flood Watches continue to creep northward in Colorado for this week as it becomes more certain that the heaviest bands of rain will setup further north Tuesday night through Wednesday night.
That said, there's still an almost comical amount of model uncertainty in rainfall amounts for the Denver-Boulder area, from 3 drops to 3 inches, which will land on the northern fringe of the storm near or within a very sharp gradient in rainfall potential. #COwx #Colorado #Denver #weather
