Yesterday was a big day for us, our Party leader & Presidential candidate H.E Edwin Watenya Sifuna unveiled our party HQ & Secretariat.
Our SG
@CaroliOmondi also shared our ideology as a party- The Social Market Economy.
So, what does a Social Market Economy mean to the ordinary Mwananchi?
An economy must do more than generate wealth. It must create opportunity, reward hard work, protect human dignity and ensure that prosperity is shared.
It means an economy where individual effort, innovation, enterprise and hard work are rewarded & where economic freedom goes hand in hand with social responsibility.
It means genuine competition, where businesses succeed because they offer better products, services and value, not because they enjoy political connections, unfair privileges or monopolistic control.
What does economic growth mean to a young person who cannot find a job? What does a thriving business sector mean to a small entrepreneur who cannot access affordable financing or compete fairly? What does national prosperity mean to a family struggling with the cost of basic necessities?
This philosophy connects directly with Article 10 of our Constitution, which sets out the national values and principles of governance that bind State organs, State officers, public officers and all persons when applying or interpreting the Constitution, making laws or implementing public policy.
Among these values are the rule of law, democracy, public participation, human dignity, equity, social justice, inclusiveness, equality, human rights and protection of the marginalised.
For the Mwananchi, this should translate into:
⏭️Fair opportunities for people to start and grow businesses.
⏭️A competitive economy that rewards innovation, productivity and genuine performance.
⏭️Policies that support workers, entrepreneurs and local industries.
⏭️Responsible regulation that prevents monopolies and unfair market practices.
⏭️Economic growth that improves livelihoods and reduces inequality.
⏭️Public institutions that uphold fairness, accountability and the rule of law.
The Social Market Economy recognises two important truths: freedom without responsibility can create inequality, while social justice without economic opportunity cannot sustainably create prosperity.
The conversation, therefore, is about finding the balance between economic freedom and social responsibility.
