Today I visited the open house of the Omaha VA Fisher House. This facility allows military service members, their families, and caregivers cost-free lodging while receiving treatment in Omaha. When Congress can’t pass a federal budget, military families, TSA agents, and other federal workers can’t make ends meet. Flights get delayed, parks shut down, and our economy suffers. If you don't do your job, you don’t get paid. That should go for Congress too. No salary, no back pay, no exceptions.

Last night I attended the Rapid Response Omaha 2026 Annual Banquet, celebrating 26 years of America's Disaster Relief Teams serving communities in crisis. The evening was held at Peter Fink's Classic Car Collection, where Omaha Rapid Response President Ken Gruber shared stories from disaster sites their teams have served. Even in the darkest moments, the compassion of those who show up for victims brings hope. Thank you to Rapid Response Omaha for the work you do!

What a great morning at the 2026 Valley Fire & Rescue Department event. We enjoyed meeting several constituents, catching up with both new and old friends, and visiting with the dedicated men and women who help keep our community safe. It was especially nice to have a tour with Tyler Curtis from the Suburban Fire Board and conversations with Captain Luthy. One of the best surprises was running into our former babysitter and her family. What a wonderful reminder of the connections that make a community special! We also had the opportunity to see firsthand the equipment, gear, and facilities that our firefighters rely on every day. We are incredibly grateful for the investment in our fire and rescue services and, most importantly, for the volunteer firefighters who give their time, energy, and courage to protect our community. Thank you to everyone who makes Valley safer and stronger. We appreciate you!

Yesterday I was honored to join the dedication for the Dunham House, a first-of-its-kind home in north Omaha for combat-wounded veterans, many living with traumatic brain injuries. It's built so they can heal physically, mentally, and spiritually with people who share their experience. Named for Marine Cpl. Jason Dunham, who died shielding his fellow Marines from a grenade in Iraq. Built right here in NE-02.

It's been 25 years since the world changed forever. We remember every life lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the courage of those who ran toward danger to save others. Firefighters, police officers, and everyday heroes who gave everything that day showed us the very best of America in the face of an unimaginable horror.
