Why is this not news when cyclists hit by trucks are always top news?
Awful. @CentralParkNYC has let down park users by focusing on horse carriages and not on the single factor that has made the paths dangerous and unpleasant. RIP.

More regulatory capture coming: "NYC DOT is conducting a study around the possibility of Grand Street becoming a one-way eastbound road and Metropolitan Avenue becoming a one-way westbound road between Union Avenue and the Metropolitan Avenue Bridge."

ICMYI: DOT is putting two-way bike lanes on the Queensboro Bridge Upper Level entrance on Skillman Ave.
Nearly 3200 vehicles/hour turn on/off to the bridge here for the only toll free route from Queens to Manhattan. This is going to be a right turn death trap.

Are you saying that traffic moves better near Times Square since pedestrianization? If so, why did the MTA have to increase the running time of its bus routes?
You say that as if the lack of parking is what kept Times Square clogged with traffic prior to pedestrianization in 2009.
They were in fact extra lanes that now serve bicycles and, when needed, emergency vehicles.

50 years ago a bottleneck on the southbound BQE was eliminated with the addition of a third lane when 3 lanes became 2 and then 3 again. Traffic moved at 20 mph bet 6 AM &11 PM. Traffic moved at 40 mph after the new lane & still does 50 yrs later. No induced demand.

Adding lanes make trips quicker so more people are inclined to drive. That is induced demand. Primary reason someone chooses not to drive is there is no parking at the destination or they don’t want to lose their space. Adding lanes doesn’t increase parking so they won’t drive.

I never said drivers aren’t competent. I said there are certain situations when they have no choice.

One car lane is crazy because everyone has to stop every time someone enters or leaves a parking space.
