And, at this point, there is no “war.” I’ve fought this “war” for 20 years. Your brothers and sisters in uniform have died at their evil hands.

Trump dragged us into a war with Iran with no idea what he was doing. We deserve answers about why he got us in this mess, but this Administration has none to give.

No kidding, I was a new @Delta FO after retiring from the USAF. On the MD-88. At LaGuardia. It was a nighttime departure. I was running my “flows” to prep the jet. I couldn’t see the overhead panel. First time ever.
I called back to the FA’s. “Got any readers?” 🤣

Tonight’s Buzz’s Bedtime Stories is a history lesson. Get comfy. Take notes.
In 1989, the US military launched an attack on Manual Noriega and Panama. It was Christmas Eve. It was named “Operation Just Cause.” Noriega was a drug kingpin and was harassing US military service members who were stationed there, by treaty, and US military members like me who were transiting.
He wanted us out but we had bases there and helped build the Panama Canal.
One night, a few weeks earlier, I took my crew to dinner in Panama City at a local restaurant. La Cascada. It became very obvious that shit was going down. We were tracked by the PDF and had to request police escort back to our hotel. The next day, we got out of Dodge.
President George H. W. Bush ordered retaliation. Operation Just Cause. A 55 ship of military transports carrying the 82nd Airborne, F-117s, and various other military assets, converged on Noriega. And, me too.
The first shots in the fight was an Air Force AC-130 gunship. They targeted Noriega’s compound. The aircraft commander of the AC-130 targeted the home and said, “Merry Christmas, motherfucker.” And leveled it.
I’ve never been prouder to be an American. From diner to combatant. 💪🇺🇸🔥

Getting gas in Guam in 1995. Long ass day!
Thailand to Hanoi to Guam to Hawaii. But one of my most cherished memories, repatriating the remains of 5 US servicemen who paid the ultimate price in the Vietnam War.
We landed in Hanoi to take possession of our warriors. The Vietnamese were rude and dismissing, even after I paid them $50,000 in landing fees. In cash. There’s a picture out there somewhere. Me, hunched over, on the ground and counting out cash for a country who hated us.
They interfered when we tried to honor our dead as we loaded them onto the airplane. The “Dignified Transfer” was not dignified.
We departed, finally, and landed in Guam for gas. (I’m the crusty dude on the left with two of America’s hall of fame loadmasters and two great friends).
We arrived at Hickam AFB, Hawaii for the official ceremony with family members. We hit our blocks within 30 seconds of our scheduled arrival time! This is pre-GPS and no navigator. REPAT15 was our call sign.

Came across this again today and it still does the same thing it did in ’72.
I got back from Vietnam in a year when nobody wanted to hear about it and the whole country felt like it was arguing with itself in a wet parking lot. Then this song came on the radio... three kids who’d never seen a rice paddy singing about riding a nameless horse through a desert that “felt good to be out of the rain.”
That line landed like a brick. The rain, for me, wasn’t weather. It was the whole damn decade: the noise, the questions you couldn’t answer, the people who wanted a name and a story and a position from you the minute you stepped off the plane. The desert in the song wasn’t geography. It was the first quiet place that didn’t demand an explanation.
The horse didn’t have a name because it didn’t need one. It just took you somewhere the heat was hot and nobody was asking what you’d done or why you weren’t the same. After nine days you let it run free. That part always made sense. Some things you don’t keep. You just needed the ride.
Fifty years later the country is still loud and the rain never really stopped. But every time this comes on I remember what it felt like to want nothing more complicated than sand, a fly with a buzz, and a stretch of ground that didn’t talk back.
