We were delighted to recently hold a celebration at @tinsidelido. CAPFest was the culmination of sessions and activities over the summer on @PlymHoe surrounding the dangers of tombstoning, and how we could provide activities for young people that were accessible and low pressure. Young people took part in boxing, DJing, and connected with local support including the Child Centred Policing Team (@DC_Police), @TheZonePlymouth and the @childrensociety. CAPFest was planned and run by young people, who created posters, wrote funding bids and spoke at meetings with organisations such as The Zone, @CAPUKTweets and the Trust. The event included swimming, live music from DJ Jozzy, and a group of young people who got together and performed as a band named Asylum. CAPFest and the activities on the Hoe were put together as part of a wider collaboration between Community Alcohol Partnerships, The Zone, Child Centre Policing, @plymouthcc Youth Service (Cosmo), Plymouth Youth Music Service, Children’s Society and @PlymCommHomes aimed at creating safe and accessible spaces and activities for children and young people, whilst raising awareness around potentially dangerous behaviours, and drug and alcohol use and the effects that it can have. Partnership working is a big part of what makes a CAP work. Every CAP is different because it is shaped by the community it works in and the organisations involved. The important thing is getting the right people around the table and working together on what matters locally.
