Today's #FridayFeature is this pair of batting gloves worn by Elodie Ciamarro (Mont-Saint-Hilaire, QC) in the inaugural game of the Women’s Pro Baseball League (WPBL) on August 1, 2026.
In the historic game between the LA Queens and the New York Heights, the Queens won the inaugural contest 10-8. Ciamarro was one of 5 Canadians in the lineups when she entered the game at 2nd base.
Fellow Canadians Jaida Lee, Claire Eccles, and Madison Willan also took the field for the Heights while the lone Canadian on the opposing roster for the Queens was Michelle Roche.
Congratulations to all of the Canadian-born athletes who competed in the inaugural season of the WPBL this year, we can't wait to see what comes next!

Following a two-year stint as baseball’s deputy commissioner, McHale was hired by Charles Bronfman to help develop a big league team in Montreal. McHale was the club’s first president and the team’s general manager from 1978 to 1984.

#OTD 64 years ago, Pete Ward (Montreal, Que.) made his MLB debut with the Baltimore Orioles.
With the O’s tied 1-1 with the Minnesota Twins, Ward pinch-hit for second baseman Marv Breeding in the seventh inning and hit a two-run single.
The O’s won the game 3-2.

#OTD 26 years ago, Vladimir Guerrero belted his 43rd home run of the season for the Expos to break his own single-season franchise record set the previous season.
It was a two-run HR in the fifth off Marlins righty A.J. Burnett in the Expos' 10-3 win at Olympic Stadium.
