Yesterday, the BCFSA wrote to confirm that the letter has been withdrawn, and that it will not form part of Chivers’ record. The CCF now considers the matter closed. This should be a reminder to professional regulators across the country that they cannot censor political speech.

In NDP-run B.C., a political opinion posted on your own time can now earn you a warning from a Crown agency.
Langley realtor Corbin Chivers criticized the closure of Joffre Lakes Provincial Park to non-Indigenous British Columbians. That post had nothing to do with selling houses. The BC Financial Services Authority still cautioned him. They called his comments polarizing and said they could bring the industry into disrepute.
A real estate licence is not a muzzle. Citizens in a democracy must be free to speak. This is the same government that sends police to people’s doors over social media posts and wants to criminalize so-called residential school “denialism” without even defining the crime.
The NDP is building a culture where the wrong opinion can cost you your livelihood. That has to stop.

“You cannot get around the Charter just by calling a protester a trespasser,” said Dehaas. “If someone can be kicked off public property simply for criticizing their government, the officials responsible have fundamentally misunderstood why the Charter protects free expression.”

I'm in Vancouver where I met realtor Corbin Chivers. The @CDNConstFound is helping Corbin to fight back against censorship by the regulator for BC realtors, the BC Financial Services Authority (BCFSA).
On June 22, the BCFSA sent Corbin a caution letter in response to what I'd characterize as mainstream and vanilla conservative viewpoints. Corbin made online posts critical of DRIPA and the closure of Joffre Lakes Provincial Park to non-Indigenous visitors.
In its letter, the BCFSA called Chivers’ comments “polarizing,” “inflammatory” and “discriminatory,” and cautioned they could bring the real estate industry into disrepute.
This letter says takes zero account of Corbin's right to freedom of expression under section 2(b) of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Professional regulators have no business policing ordinary political opinions. We are demanding the BCFSA withdraw the caution letter and are proud to represent Corbin.
