Another successful weekend for our Queen City Safe initiative, this time focusing on key areas within our University City Division. Our officers and specialized units, alongside our partners at the ALE, @FBICharlotte, @MeckCounty ABC, @MeckSheriff, @NCSHP and DJJ, concentrated their efforts in locations with frequent quality‑of‑life concerns. Together, they achieved a clear and measurable disruption of criminal activity, suppressing open‑air narcotics operations and removing illegally possessed firearms and individuals driving violent crime.

Case Update: The suspect in this case has been identified as Curtis Jermaine Massey, 47.
The next of kin has been notified of his death.
CMPD has formally filed a petition for the release of the body-worn camera footage from the Officer-Involved Shooting.
Statement from Chief Estella D. Patterson:
"I am deeply committed to being transparent and forthcoming, while balancing our legal duty to protect the integrity of an active investigation. Having personally reviewed the body-worn camera footage from the recent officer-involved shooting, I believe it provides critical context that will help the public understand what happened. Under North Carolina law, releasing body-worn camera footage requires a court order. Today, our police attorney formally filed a petition seeking that authorization. We will share an update and release the footage according to any guidelines set by the Court.”
