Just another boring day in Cambodia. All the top Filipino cockfighting billionaires love it here
Philippine Billionaire Wanted Over 34 Disappearances May Be Hiding in Cambodia
A fugitive Philippine gambling tycoon wanted in connection with the disappearance of 34 cockfighting enthusiasts may have fled to Cambodia, according to Philippine Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla.
Charlie “Atong” Ang, one of the Philippines' most wanted fugitives, faces multiple arrest warrants for kidnapping, serious illegal detention and homicide. The victims disappeared between 2021 and 2022, allegedly after being accused of cheating in cockfighting matches.
Remulla now claims Ang has left the Philippines and was last seen in Cambodia. He also suggested the businessman controls as much as $3 billion, potentially converted into cryptocurrency, although that figure remains unverified.
There is an interesting twist. Philippine authorities made a similar claim in January and even sent police officers to Cambodia to investigate. Cambodia's Foreign Ministry subsequently denied Ang was in the country, stating that immigration records showed no evidence of his arrival or departure.
At the time, Remulla accepted that Ang might still be hiding in the Philippines.
Eight months later, Cambodian authorities are once again being linked to the search for one of the Philippines' most wanted men.
