However, the real challenge is to stay consistent, keep questioning the data, and remain humble in a world that changes fast.

πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί In August, registrations of fully electric cars jumped by more than 50% year-on-year across Europe (+75% in Germany and more than +100% in France). πŸ“ˆ Since the start of the year, EV market share had already been rising sharply thanks to several factors such as more models in the €20,000-25,000 range, better driving ranges, more charging infrastructure and still very significant government support. Oil is not creating the trend but it is hitting at a point where the market was already close to a tipping point and is now accelerating the move dramatically. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Meanwhile, this EV boom can be great news for Europe’s energy transition while becoming bad news for Europe’s auto industry at the same time. Chinese manufacturers are very well positioned in this market with competitive vehicles, highly integrated supply chains and aggressive pricing, and their market share in Europe is approaching 12% in some months. Europe spent years pushing the auto industry toward electrification, and now that the transition is finally accelerating, the companies best positioned to benefit from it are not necessarily European. Quite a paradox, ain't it ? Oil probably did not trigger Europe’s EV boom but it may simply turn a gradual transition into a much more abrupt acceleration. *Bloomberg link: bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
