We are a Veteran-owned, family operated historic general store in Henderson County, KY. Recently restored after a local flood, we're now open! Come try one of our famous strombolis, pizza, or hot breakfast from the deli. Or shop our nostalgic candy and memorabilia. See you soon!
We spent 6 months renovating the interior. Last month we had the front porch repaired. This month, windows that had been boarded up for decades were replaced. Today a customer came in and said, "y'all have done more to fix this building than anyone in the past 15 years." 1/
I told him it's because we see Cagey's General Store as more than just a business. This building is a piece of American history. It was built in 1936 and has been central to our town for 90 years. It requires care and keeping. It's an historic structure we intend preserve. 2/2
One of our regulars came in yesterday. Puts his money on the counter and says,
"Sir, I need more worms again."
We try not to be biased, but the young boys who fish around here are some of our favorite customers.
It may only just now be Fall, but I'm really looking forward to hanging these Farmall tractor ornaments that a customer brought in for us, on our Christmas tree this year.
You have to remember that for every business you can see, there's a number of ideas being built into business that you don't see.
There's a lot of great Americans building really cool things right now. Even more are coming soon.
We will have our home again 🇺🇸
We sell live bait. And it's usually purchased for fishing. Obviously. But the other day a customer came in to buy worms because she wants to start composting. It just so happens that our owner has a background in biology, so she got worms and a lesson in phosphorus in the soil!
Here's why we ignore trash talkers on the internet (see comments on OP for oodles of them). We are actually building something. Heads down, hands to the plow, never stopping. 4 months ago it looked like the bottom photo. Today it looks like this. And we aren't close to finished.
There's a general store with 2 gas pumps down the road from us in rural Kentucky. It's the last one in our county that hasn't been bought up by foreigners and converted into a kratom/vape emporium. In December, we bought it.
Every night I check the Cycle Blaze Journal of one of our customers who is currently only days from completing his cycling trip from the east coast to the west coast. He began in VA and just reached CA. We've been rooting for him the whole time!:

Our front porch is complete! It's not only functional (and will sound amazing to sit under in the rain), but includes several ornate details because we believe that function isn't all that matters. Beauty matters too.
At Cagey's General Store we are anti-vape, anti-kratom, anti-lotto, anti-tacky led light strips and window clings.
What we are is 100% Heritage American.
