It's a litmus test for sanity.
The majority of Albertans are insane if Option 1 wins.

There are now TWO serious fiscal analyses Albertans can examine.
The UCalgary report models a “difficult” scenario involving hostile negotiations, much higher trade costs, higher borrowing costs and other adverse assumptions.
The new ATC analysis asks a different question: using revenues Alberta already generates, can Alberta pay for existing services AND the additional functions of a country?
Its answer, under its assumptions:
$22.2B–$32.1B surplus left over annually.
Even after layering in $13.5B/year of independence-specific adverse costs:
$8.7B–$18.6B remains.

Dunno who needs to hear this in Alberta...
Not wanting to vote in a referendum because lines are long is not an excuse to cancel democracy. Lines will always be potentially long- that's an indicator that your vote has more importance, not an indicator that you should find a way to be heard without reporting for your civic duty.
I don't want to go to work to get money- because I'd rather play with my kids, but society is hedged on me going, anyways. Not me hiring a stand-in that passes as me that doesn't do my job but doesn't raise any alarms- so I get most of my paycheck without working.
You change the ingredients- you change the result.
And I don't care what Bill 54 says- it's rubbish. You know you shouldn't be doing it.

Well Alberta,
I hate to be a Debbie Downer... but somebody has to call this spade- a spade.
We ban so many things on election day (and near polling stations)... and we all agree this is a solid principle of democracy... and it's enforced to the point of not allowing overt party-colours in polling stations.
We do this to give voters a VITAL period of reflection before they vote.
We have ~3 million people on the voter's list and 610,000 mail-in ballots, so far.
At least 20% of the eligible voters in this referendum will vote by mail. This could be a much higher percentage of voters that turnout (turnout won't be 100%). Might be 30-40% of all votes cast.
Now riddle me this,
Swaying people on election day is so heavily forbidden (under penalty of law), because a period of reflection is so important...
...and these mail-in voters are essentially having an "election day" at the mailbox while campaigns are fully in their face...
...then what the hell are we talking about, here?
For 20% of the population, no reflection was needed.
I get needing a mail-in ballot if you’re disabled or stuck in another country and can’t get to a polling station. 40% of the province is not in Afghanistan.
I'm sorry, we've failed:
The reality is this isn’t even the real question. It’s a watered-down stand-in: vote now so we can maybe ask another question later- and even if this passes, the wording of that next question isn’t guaranteed. The mandate from this result is already piss-poor because it breaks the election-day rules everyone claims to agree on.
As-is, this seems to violate Clarity Act rules where the voters have been influenced due to being allowed to experience fresh campaign materials at the moment of voting. Any majority then, cannot be a clear majority: they were influenced.
Just what the hell are we doing, here?
This is expensive and the future of this province is at stake!

NEW REPORTS: Here’s the number that should get the attention of every Alberta family:
$4,390–$6,350 per Albertan.
That is the annual fiscal room our new report estimates could remain after Alberta funds the services people receive today AND assumes the additional responsibilities of an independent country.
For a family of four, the scale is roughly $17,500–$25,400 in annual fiscal capacity.
That does NOT mean every family gets a cheque.
It means future Albertans could have some very significant choices about taxes, debt, savings and public services.
